People shopping in computer hardware stores, unlike in grocery stores, rarely make whimsical purchases, not buying a pair of headphones and a mouse when they come in for a hard drive, but they leave with a hard drive only.

A, B and E are out because here comparison is between people in computer hardware stores and people in grocery stores.

Left with C and D.

C is out because we have two verbs and one subject.
Answer is D.

Comparison be people shopping in hardware stores and people shopping in grocery stores

So A,Band E are out

Be C and D

C- do not buy phrase -not sure to whom it is referring to(ppl in hardware or people in grocery) so not correct

D- usaGe of semicolon correctly separes two clauses and make sentence meaning wise correct.part after semicolon correctly elaborate the intent of sentence
