Thank you all for your valuable inputs.
VPGMAT, I am a BTech-Mechanical grad with 90%+ score in 10th, 12th as well as college. I have worked in an automotive ancillary manufacturing firm for 5 years and for the past 1 year, I am working with an NGO. I have a few achievements in my career and academics. Considering the pandemic, I was inclined to go for a two-year course with the hope that the economy will get stable by that time. I also applied to ISB-PGP but couldn't convert the call though I will try again this time.
So I wanted some guidance regarding the above topic.
Since you have more than 6 years experience and looking at your profile, 2 year MBA in India would not be my recommendation. Two major reasons :
- Average work ex would be 1-2 years and more than 6 years work-ex would make you an outlier in the class. current batch of 2 year has 2% candidates greater than 48 months.
- Placement for 6 plus work-ex may get tricky when companies come for hiring candidates with below 3 years work-ex.
I would recommend, 1 years MBA - IIMA/B/C or ISB in India.
You would be lower than average work-ex in IIMs and that would help you in learning from the more experienced folks.
The job opportunities available during placements would help you leverage your work-ex.
As far as overall placement scenario is concerned, there is no surety you would land the jobs of your dreams even during the booming economy. There are lot of uncontrollable things in play during placement and hence it is difficult to predict placements for any B-school.
Let me give you an example. This year graduates from 2 year PGP from IIMA landed a PPO in a leading research organization. These folks were among the top 10% of the batch. Given the organization's strong balance sheet and business model, it was a shocker when the organization rescinded their offers while other lesser known organizations honored their commitments. You cannot control every aspect of the placement. Welcome to reality of MBA.
