Hi All,

Got a question on use of pronoun usage and i have been on this for like a week now...

Is it wrong for a pronoun to refer to noun in an of prepositional phrase or any prepositional phrase?? Was doing some reading through Manhattan GMAT forum. But could not find anything conclusive. I use the Manhattan Sentence Correction Guide but it did not treat this explicitly...

Can't think of an example to quote here. Any help on this will be appreciated..

Hi

A pronoun can refer to a noun inside the prepositional phrase. It is acceptable in GMAT! Also the antecedent can also come in the next clause of the sentence.

Ex- The determination of the birds helps them to cross the continents!

Them refers to birds.

a. the recently printing of photographs adorns the wall of the family room.
b. The photographs that were recently printed adorn the wall of the family roon
c. The recently printed photographs adorn the wall of the family room

Ans : B

what's wrong with choice (c), infact (B) is little wordy ?

I don't know where you guys are getting these sentences from, but they're very poorly written. Whoever came up with these sentences is doing a poor job at imitating the GMAT. Stick to real GMAT questions only.

Hi, I know it's been a couple of years now, but I encountered these two questions yesterday.
For the first question, the answer was a and for the second question, the answer was a, too.

I got these two questions from E-GMAT, and I am pretty sure the answers are wrong.

For the first question, I would've definitely chosen option C; option B is ok but too wordy.
For the second question, I would never, ever choose option A. I'd go with either B or C.

Any clarification on this, guys?

The guys from E-GMAT are Indians, I believe. I am not trying to appear rude or anything like this(!!!) but perhaps these answers are grammatically correct from an Indian-English perspective?

Hi Daniel,

I have just gone through the questions mentioned by you on the E-Gmat platform.
The reason for the answers to both questions being option 'A' is that each of these questions asks the candidate to choose the "INCORRECT" version of the above sentence.
As rightly pointed out by you, both the options are incorrect versions of the above mentioned questions.

I actually visited this thread on GMAT Club to ask a different question:

Posting of videos of 61-year old medical professor who harness statistics to illustrate dramatically how economic progress has made the world better have drawn well over 1 million views on the youtube.

a.Posting of videos
b. Once Posted ,the videos
c. The Posted Videos

Solution:
Subject: Posting; Verb: have drawn
It is illogical to say that the 'posting' of videos draws views. It is the 'videos' that draw views.
Hence, we know that option 'A' is incorrect.

But between options 'B' and 'C', I am not able to choose the more appropriate one.
Is option 'B' grammatically correct tense wise? Doesn't 'Once posted' indicate that the following clause should be more of a simple present tense than a present perfect one?
I will be really glad if someone could help me with the solution to this.
