Hi Charudatta,

Your international work experience looks interesting for sure and should be attractive for ISB or any other Indian b-school as you will bring a unique perspective of one of the world's best- the Japanese manufacturing industry to classroom discussions. i hope you can back this up with some good examples of achievement and impact through your 10-year long career.
Also, it will help in admission to have a more defined career plan. Where do you want to work post MBA? Do those jobs or roles require you to do an MBA? You must answer these questions as they are likely to get asked in the essays and then during the interview, and not having thought through these important questions can land applicants in trouble.
I am not so worried by your GMAT, which stands at 690-700 on the classic version. Although it is on the lower side, but it can still work, especially if your past acads are good. Moreover, your recommender can also point to your quant capability. Overall, make your self attractive to the adcom so that they value what you bring to ISB more than fixating on the GMAT.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hello Charudatta22,

The international exposure will prove to be immensely value adding and will help you offset the slightly low GMAT score.

Your chances will depend on how well you are able to translate your strengths into a narrative, showcase why you wish to move to India, and what your post MBA goals are.

All in all, you have a good chance at your target schools but the essays will be key!

Good luck!

You surely have a one-of-a-kind profile. The international experience makes you a very strong candidate for any of the schools on your list. You did not mention your goals, but please know that a significant part of the decision-making process is attributed to your research about your goals and the clarity around how you would be able to achieve them through the PGP or MBA program. I have a similar background, having spent my pre-MBA career in industrial manufacturing abroad before moving back to India. Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss your plans or get some advice.

Charudatta22 - your international work experience presents a unique angle. Having said that, I'd like to understand it better i.e. which companies, roles/ functions, were there any promotions (?), etc.

It'd also be crucial to have a strong narrative covering your experiences so far, motivation for an MBA (and moving to India), career goals (target sector/ function/ geography), etc.

As you might know, the GMAT score is a bit on the lower side - was this your first attempt? And do you foresee an improvement if you were to retake?

Broadly though, IIM's value the work-ex, so you might have an edge there. For example, this candidate got into IIM-A with a 635 GMAT

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out for a detailed chat.

Regards,
Arvind
