Preperation Strategy confusion [#permalink]

New post 12 May 2017, 11:55
I've just started my preparation for GMAT and using basic verbal guides as my starting point. I;ve already given diagnostic test and I know my weak areas.
So should I directly complete the guide (Manhattan Guides) first and then use my OG book for practice? or should I use OG practice questions along with the guides?
Why I am asking this question is because after completing two -three chapters from the guides I feel that I need more practice to get a good grip of the concepts that I just learned (as there are only 10 questions and that too not in the official format). But again if I pick OG for practice I dont know whether that question will be from that topic or not. Please help.

Hi simar121993,

Here is the strategy and resources to use:

1. Learn a concept
2. Practice question from MGMAT guide (both quant and verbal)
3. practice questions from other sources on gmat club
4. Practice questions from Official Guides (10,12,13,15,16,17 - all can be found on gmatclub)
5. Practice questions from Quant Review and Verbal Review
6. Keep an error log
7. Review everything
8. After all concepts learnt, practiced and reviewed, Take a mock
9. Now Mock->review->practice->review->Mock------> D Day :)

Hi simar121993 ,

I would suggest first focus on Manhattan and understand everything.

Post completion, go to OG and check whether you are actually able to solve such questions.

Hi

I know my weak areas.

it is good that you knew your weak area, give more time to them

So should I directly complete the guide (Manhattan Guides) first and then use my OG book for practice?

First learn a concept, then practice questions related to that concept for both Quant and verbal, after practice Take quizzes of that concept related question
GMAT Club test are superb for quizzes

But again if I pick OG for practice I dont know whether that question will be from that topic or not. Please help.

Questions Tags are available at GMAT Club test as well as on the forum use tags to know the concept test in question

Review your quizzes find out your mistakes and make an error log to trace them later
After completing all concept and handsome practice, take some CATs (6-8)
Review your progress know your mistakes and practice them again

Good Luck

Always finish a concept from MGMAT guide and then directly move onto the actual OG questions so that you can figure out how the concept is applied to actual GMAT questions.GMAT questions may test multiple concepts but still the above approach is more beneficial.

You must be thorough with the answers and the underlying concepts underlying the OG questions.

No question, I repeat , no question from unofficial sources will help you.Always spend more time on official questions.

gmatclub is a great resource but it can not replace the official sources from mba.com .There are tons of questions on this website but you may drown yourself and deviate from your main focus.

MGMAT guides are more than enough for basics.Does not MGMAT guides come with reference to OG questions. Buy MGMAT guide for SC.

Yeah Finish a chapter and then practice it from MGMAT & then GMAT club and then OG. Keep writing down all the tricks or traps you see.
