Hi Linda,

Thanks for your opinion.

I mentioned Consulting and Finance as my preferred post-MBA streams as I ain't sure which profile suits better for an Indian IT guy in International market. These two streams (consulting and finance) cropped up after discussing with few of my colleagues who are also pursuing MBA from B-schools.

I may be ready to change my stream based on the B-school curriculum and the best courses offers in it. But as stated by you, the key question is whether should I retake GMAT. I'm in two minds regarding that, reason being, first - I've almost exhausted all my prep material; second - I was doing reasonably well in mock tests but somehow got blanked from 1st question in Verbal during second attempt at GMAT (which I considered as my best shot at GMAT). Also, my verbal scores have usually ranged from 33 - 35 and quants from 49 - 50. So, even taking maximum of both, i.e Q50, V35/36, would i be able to get a reasonable good GMAT score which would justify the 3d attempt.

Your comments are most welcome :)

I think you're focusing too much on your label and not enough on where you want to end up professionally. Please see "Response to 'Shortlisting MBA Programs."

Yes your goals may change in business school as you learn and grow, but you need some direction before you start. Otherwise you might as well throw darts at a dartboard in terms of choosing programs. Please see "Why MBA?" You also need more specific career direction so that when you start business school you will be ready for the internship recruiting that begins very quickly.

Regarding the GMAT I see , but if you could maintain your quant and increase your verbal those 1-2 points that will help you at the programs that feed into the top investment banks and management consulting firms as well as when applying to jobs at those firms. On the other hand, you don't have to go that route. You can work in corporate finance or you can work at smaller consulting firms and graduate from still excellent but slightly lower ranked programs. If it's important to pursue the first option, then retake, perhaps trying a different prep approach. If you are happy with the results and the opportunities open to you with those results, then don't' retake.

Best,
Linda
