Hi all, I'm looking to get some feedback on my profile. I applied to Harvard and Stanford this year but didn't get into either, so I'm wondering what's reasonable for next year. My current targets include Wharton, Kellogg, MIT, Berkeley. I am also considering part-time/EMBA programs including EMBA-Global (Columbia + LBS), LBS, and INSEAD.
I have rich work experience and strong recommendations. My weak areas are sub-700 GMAT and post-college extracurriculars. If there is anything I can do to dramatically strengthen my profile, please let me know. Thanks!
Program: MBA (FT)
Area of Interest: Entrepreneurship, Strategy, Product Management, Venture Capital
Age: 28 at matriculation (assuming fall 2014)
Nationality: USA
Gender: Male
GMAT: 680 (V38 Q45 IR8 AWA6) [I could bump this up to a 720 on a re-take]
Undergraduate GPA: 3.5/4.0 (3.67/4.00 in major)
Academics: B.S., Finance and B.S., Operations Management from a top-25 undergraduate business school (University of Maryland)
Work Experience: 6.5 years (by fall 2014) in strategy consulting and M&A advisory (for midsize consultancy focused on payments industry)
Professional Highlights:
-3 promotions (as of today; now at 5 year mark) to MBA-level position (which is unusual)
-3 years expatriate experience (by fall 2014) in Western European office
-Responsible for development of niche practice area in Europe
-2 years experience helping major American telecoms to build their mobile wallet joint venture
Additional:
-Continued engagement with business school as alumni mentor and one-time member of alumni board for an honors program I was part of
-Prior to current job, during senior year of college, founded a mobile marketing start-up which received University VC funding (but later failed, unfortunately)
-Helped start new fraternity at University (member of first pledge class and charter signatory, but not a member of founding group)
-Member of 3-year interdisciplinary (business + STEM) honors program in which students worked on real-world consulting projects
-Member of University Honors program (2-year living-learning program)
-Studied abroad at major school (University of Sydney) in Australia
-Eagle Scout
-Traveled to 23 countries across 5 continents
Reason for MBA: Go into industry doing product management for early-stage start-up, potentially start my own company; over long term, move into venture capital or corporate development
