Asking for a profile evaluation for a friend of mine who's considering hiring an admissions consultant. Thank you in advance.

Work experience
~2 years of work in healthcare consulting (top 25 consulting firm according to Vault)
~1 year of work in healthcare-related int'l development work in Africa for a top-notch global foundation
Extracurriculars
Strong extracurricular activities / leadership during college
Select involvements post college
Long-term career goal
Global public health
Questions
1. What are her chances at (a) H/S (b) Rest of M7
2. For someone with her profile (i.e., consulting background), would applying Rd 1 increase chances of admission, with all else equal? Or will there be basically no difference between Rd 1 and 2?
3. If she wouldn't be excited to attend any b-schools other than H/S, should she apply to H/S this year or wait to gain more experience and apply next year? (i.e., would there be any downsides to her applying this year, not getting in, and re-applying next year?)

Well, yes, your friend has every right to apply to the top schools with those “MBA vitals”---750 gmat, 3.8, consulting firm. I would want to know which firm--LEK? And it looks like she has three years of work experience now. I would wait for next season if she is going to get a promotion or something else material will happen in her work/extracurricular life after January. She can always take a shot now at 25, and reapply as a serious candidate in perhaps two years if things don't work out. Reapplying the next year can sometimes be tough, as there is not enough time to show material growth.
Since her GMAT is done, R1 is always great as no seats on the bus have been filled by consultants with perhaps a similar background. But, she should apply when ready, and that means not rushing the application components. Qualified candidates have no problems in R2. And her work has been consistently focused on healthcare, as are her long term goals. So the application story is going to be quite effective at creating interest. Schools like Kellogg and HBS have great healthcare focus and networks. As a matter of fact, I was just visiting with Professor Regina Herzlinger at HBS, and there is great energy and entrepreneurialism around healthcare coming out of Harvard’s recent classes.

Hey there,
So... to evaluate your chances at H/S, I'd need a LOT more detail... but let's say, that it's a struggle for almost anyone... A lot depends on how well you are performing at your firm, what firm it is, whether they traditionally send folks to H/S, and if you have any other super-extras (like you were Valedictorian, Class President, your father is some sort of Minister for the government, etc. etc._
But I do think that M7 should be within range, and I think that you can even take a shot at it this year... You have your three years, and will have four by matriculation. It's enough or you to give your shot.
As for "not being excited to go to any school but H/S.. again it depends on her profile, but she may be setting up herself for disappointment. Don't underestimate how hard it is to get into these schools, and how many other totally amazing people apply... I think she could be very happy with an M7, and could reach her goals magnificently at any of the Top 10 programs...
So I would say apply this year. There's little advantage to making the mystery last longer. Either she will get into H/S (or other M7 schools) or she will not... and if not, she can always reapply next year with greater improvements.
