Hello Experts
Thank you for your time in advanced.
First Let me introduce myself.
I am a Mechanical Engineer with 8.5 years experience in Product Design. (Design of metro Trains & high speed trains )
Currently I am working in UK for Bombardier Transport, Derby as a Work Package Leader for the East Anglia train design team.
Professionally, I have taken up some challenging jobs & have some significant professional achievements (Bagged a multi million dollar project last year for QUEST global, Crucial in developing talent pool in rail domain for QUEST Global, Have been awarded more than a dozen times in my career for performance, Experience of handling client from 5 different nationalities, Worked from client locations for more than 4 years of my career including 1+ years in UK & France)
I have a below average academic background.10th (83%), 12th (49%) & Btech (63%).
I have a GMAT score of 690 (Q50, V33, IR6, AWA 5).
Considering my poor academic background, I am planning to retake GMAT in order to give myself a fighting chance. But due to work pressure I am unable to devote time for GMAT prep.
Any Data or information on these below questions will be immensely helpful to me in order to get a clarity.
1A. I need an insight on how much a below average academic background such as mine can hamper my chances at IIMA,B & C? 1B. What is the acceptance rate at these schools?
2A. Schools that I will have a good chance with GMAT 690? 2B. What is the acceptance rate at these schools?
3. Considering my poor academic background, is a GMAT score of 750+ is must for me or do I have a fair chance even with 690?
4. When Should I retake GMAT if I wish to apply this year? (I am thinking OCT last week)?
Regards
Alok
Dear Alok,
So first of all it's not so much a question of what GMAT you NEED, but rather that a specific GMAT will allow you to apply to specific schools. My general advice is that you should not apply, ESPECIALLY as an Indian candidate, if your GMAT is lower than the top score you can get. Things are just to competitive out there, and especially for Indian engineers.
Here are two articles specifically about Indian candidates and the GMAT which should throw some light on the matter for you:
https://admissionado.com/mba/3-tips-for- ... n=mba_bloghttps://admissionado.com/mba/to-retake-o ... n=mba_blogOtherwise, as to where you can and should apply, in order to be able to answer that, I will need more information from you. I am missing detail.
I need a LOT more info from you - school name, employer name, titles, promotions, greatest achievements, volunteer work, sports, community service, religious involvement, leadership.. etc. before I can give you a real evaluation.
It will also be very helpful if you can elaborate upon your goals.
Have a look at some of the other very detailed profile requests on this board and do something similar and I'll be happy to get back to you.
Best,
JF

Hello JF
Sorry for the delay reply. Actually as advised by you I decided to focus on GMAT again.
2 days back I took my GMAT & scored 740 (Q50, V40)
Background: I was scoring 770/780 in official mock tests all 4 of them (760,760,770,780). But Was down with fever the day before exam & hence the lower score.
Should I try GMAT once again or should I focus on Round 2 applications?
Need your expertise on which programs I should target?
Please find my answer to the specific question you had asked
school name: I haven't decided yet on schools, Could you please suggest?
employer name: Bombardier Transport, UK
titles: Work Package leader
promotions: 3 in 7 years
greatest achievements: Selected to be part of the core the 5 member core team that would work to acquire a new client. Played a vital role in acquiring a multi-million dollar 6 year deal with Bombardier. The 2 pilot projects I handled as part of the Pilot project got 90+ CSAT. (The reason why we got the contract). Built a team by hiring & training over 50 to be competent enough to work & display our capability. As a member of the founding team, I am able to impact directly on the amount of work we can acquire from the client (Working from client site, the first project got 87 CSAT & as a result got multiple new projects). Won more than dozen of awards for work.
I was selected to work on the ambitious Kochi Metro design project (First metro train to be designed in India). Led a team of 10-15 for the underframe Equipment subsystem.
