Hi there -
Welcome to Chicago! I lived there for 6 years (during and after Kellogg) and LOVE the city. Sounds like you moved at just the right time (almost summer). Anyway, here are a few thoughts on your MBA questions / profile:
- your work experience sounds fantastic! I'm assuming that you will have strong leadership stories and can show progression (both formal through your promotions and informal through increased responsibility over time)
- I understand in theory what your goals are but know that you'll want to be more specific for the adcom at the top programs. You'll want to give a good rationale for "why" you want to go into the finance side and what your "vision" is for the industry. For my healthcare clients in the past, oftentimes they can point to specific situations, experiences or aspects of the industry that have motivated them to pursue this path
- your GPA is a bit lower for the schools you are targeting, but typically there are other areas you can point to in order to mitigate a lower GPA (eg. you need to show that you can succeed in the classroom)
- your GMAT is going to be tough for the schools you have in mind, but as you pointed out, retaking will be a good thing. Sometimes an amazing story can outweigh scores (just last year I had a girl with a 680 / healthcare goals get into Kellogg as a reapplicant), so don't feel like all is lost if this is the only issue on your application. I've seen lower scores get into the top schools, but of course these are the exceptions not the rules, so I would err on the side of caution and pour yourself into GMAT studying so you can get as high as possible. I personally love the Manhattan self-study books - they worked for me and I'm admittedly not a natural test taker.
