Thanks a lot for doing this! I have had my package reviewed by sandy over at Poets and Quants, but I hope to see some diversified reviews! I will be using an admissions consultant when applying so I would like to see what everyone thinks of my package.
Nationality: White
Age: 25 (27 start of program)
Gender: Male
GPA: 3.7 - Early GPA woes were caused by taking online classes while deployed. I have since began attending full time in person and have a 4.0 in all upper division coursework.
Undergrad major: Business Admin
School: University of La Verne 150ish nationally, concerned about losing major points here. I hope I can make up for the lack of name recognition by highlighting that I completed this degree entirely on active duty.
GMAT: 700+ Testing this summer, confident I can attain this score.
Work experience 7 Years United States Air Force - Non-officer
I have a diverse background which includes aircraft maintenance and honor guard, but I will be highlighting my current position; Systems Intelligence Analysis. I manage teams of 6-18 individuals on a day to day basis as well as conducting systems analysis on adversary systems, identifying the most effective and efficient way to disable those systems and then selling that concept to my peers and ultimately the decision makers directing wars. I would compare this to consulting, I am tasked with identifying ways to improve our current targeting plans and create new ones in order to streamline and increase efficiencies.
I have one thing going against me here that I hope to overcome... Not being an officer. There seems to be a lot of officers applying to b-school, I hope to be one of the few enlisted members achieving their goals as well.
Community service / volunteer works:
Program manager for the central coast beach cleanup events. I schedule, market and organize events of 50-150 people geared at cleaning the beaches after winter. We collect an estimated 800lbs of trash each year.
I serve a docent for an endangered species here on base.
Countless hours coordinating relay for life events, as well as Special Olympics events.
Personal Narrative: I am a first generation college student from a low-income family.
Entry date: Fall 2016 Full time MBA - I hope to transition from the service directly into a strong business school.
Post MBA career: The switch from military to civilian is going to be a learning experience in itself. I view business school as a great learning opportunity not only from my instruction, but from those around me. As it stands, I am very interested in consulting and sales. I expect for that to change after learning more from those with industry experience.
Target school:
Duke, Tuck, Michigan, Kellogg, Haas, University of Washington.
Thank you!
