Hi Samco,
I'll admit, our situation is a little precarious. If you have set your mind on the MBA, I'd say you go ahead with the plan- you will never know until you try. Here is what I would suggest:
1. Score well on GMAT. Aim for a 700+ even if the class average of your target programs is much lower. Your GPA is very low, and you need a big boost for the academic evaluation.
2. Use the optional essay to explain your break. While you don't give excuses, explain how this has been a journey of learning and growth for you. If you handle this with maturity, it can work.
3. Show that your work experience until the break was substantial.
4. I can't say right now whether the colleges mentioned above are the right ones for you, but I would be more realistic about your profile challenges and not aim very high. We'll have a clearer picture once your GMAT score is available.
5. Lastly, as things seem to be stabilizing in your personal life, you should start an aggressive search for getting back to a job. Applications are still a few months away. If you are working by the time you apply, you will be in a stronger position. Moreover, you will apply this year for next year's fall intake, so there's a good one year before you join business school. You shouldn't let the employment gap widen any further.
