Sahlekha,

In general, this is not enough information to do a school selection.

I can see some merits to your application - industry area, nature of organisation, academic pedigree, etc. Your GMAT is just below average for the top schools - especially from an Indian candidate. (I know - 710 should be good - but that is the state of affairs).

You might have a competitive application to Duke and Kelley - exactly how competitive I will be able to say only if I get a chance to look deeply into your profile.

Regards,
Karthik

Hi,

I would like to receive expert advice on my b school selection. The following are my credentials.

GMAT score : 710 (first attempt) (q 50 and V 35), AWA 5.5, IR 5 (took in Nov,2014)
Wrk ex : R&D in a PSU - 4.5 yrs of wrk ex at present. On a detailed level, I work in a Nanotechnology area. We take up projects towards development of specific process or product that can be used in power plant (thermal, hydro and solar). I led three projects to successful completion in the past three years. I am also a team member in other projects in the department.
Acads : 7.5/10 cgpa from Bits pilani, India.

Extra curicular during college: Nothing great during BITS (wasted a lot of time.. never did anything.. was jsut passing time.. never realised the importance of being involved and getting something done)
Extra Curricular during work - Badminton tournament..one corporate throw ball tournament...
Recently working for a education magazine targeting 8th to 12th class students.. (a friend's start up).. Its a new magazine.. I wrote some articles on stock exchange basics.. Will slowly be involved in marketing in my hometown..

Concerns : I would like to know what MBA programs would suit me. Do I stand a chance in Duke's..Kelley..range? Or Should I put my bar a bit lower...
Which schools' programs are most suited for people with nanotech (Take science) R&D in power sector..

Thank you in advance for the help :)

Sahlekha,

When looking at programs, the metrics we have to work with are the historical averages of a program's average accepted GMAT, GPA, industries, etc. But these are historical averages and a schools particular applicant interests in a given year may change dynamically. You have a competitive GMAT and GPA, but be careful not to focus on which program accepts more nanotech applicants. Rather, we recommend you should think more about how your professional functions compare to others, particularly in terms of your ability to work on and with a team as well as to lead a team. We will need more information to assess your profile more completely, but we like the sort of initiative that you show in your extracurriculars and are curious if this is similarly reflected in your professional work.

If you have any additional questions, please request an additional FREE 15-minute profile review from a WyseGyde admissions consultants. WyseGyde consultants have track records of success at top schools such as Wharton, Booth, Tuck, HBS, Columbia, Darden, and the list goes on. They could certainly help guide you along your MBA path…and the profile review is FREE!
