Hi,
Could I please get a profile evaluation for my target schools? Namely INSEAD, LBS, IESE as a first Choice options, and then IMD, HEC, Cambridge as a second option
- 27 year Old Lebanese Engineer
- B.E. Civil Engineering from the American University of Beirut, GPA. 3.02, Minor Engineering Managment - Class of 2011
- Master's of Engineering Management from the American University of Beirut, GPA. 3.79.
- 5 Years experience in total: 3 Years Construction and Project Management and 2 Years in Contract Administration.
- Co-Founder of a startup Engineering and Real estate Consultancy firm - Small Value Project.
- Got a 640 (Q47 V30) in the GMAT, but currently prepping for a retake. I strongly believe I'll hit 680 based on the Practice test. (3 to 4 points verbal improvement) - Retook the GMAT last week. Got a 690 (Q49 - V34)
- International Exposure: Worked in Algeria for 6 months, Qatar 1.5 years, UAE 2 months, Jordan on a mission basis, and Lebanon 3 years.
- P.M.P and C.A.P.M. Certified.
- My goal is to advance my career in the Construction industry and get the needed business knowledge so that I can further grow my firm.
- Extra Circular activities involve volunteer work for Red Cross donation campaigns, Village Festival organizer, and Supervising the construction and selling of Two buildings.
I'd much appreciate feedback on my chances to get into these schools.

How are you? Thanks for sharing your profile! I’m glad to see that you’re retaking the GMAT…a 40 point improvement is significant and will go a long ways towards getting that aspect of your profile in line with your target schools’ average.
Your chances of admission to any of these schools is not something that can be quantified (and beware of anyone who tells you it can!) – it’s much more art than science. However I do think that you’ll be a competitive candidate. Here are a few additional thoughts on what you can do to strengthen your application:
- Emphasize the leadership experience and impact you’ve had in your career so far. In your resume, don’t simply explain your roles and responsibilities but explain what you’ve done and how you’ve left your mark. Particularly for European MBA programs who admit applicants with a few more years of work experience (vs. the top US programs, on average), the quality of your work experience carries that much more weight and becomes more competitive in the applicant pool. Your entrepreneurial experience is great and certainly brings with it some interesting insights and perspective. It’s not clear if that’s your full-time job right now or not but regardless, this experience will provide an interesting dynamic to your application.
- International experience is great! Make sure to highlight that throughout your application, including how you navigated any challenges or hurdles that came through working on diverse teams.
- I would encourage you to get quite a bit more specific about your post-MBA career goals – both in the short-term and long-term – and clearly explain why you’re pursuing an MBA. Having a cohesive and tight story around that trajectory will be key. How exactly do you plan to “advance your career in the construction industry”? What does that look like in a post-MBA job? Or if you goal is to work on your business full-time, what is your vision and long-term goal for the business? Where do you want to take it and how will you get there? Essays that clearly lay out this plan and thought process will be a winning strategy for you.

Your profile looks diverse and interesting, with all the international experience, your extra curricular activities and your professional achievements, so on that part you are all good! The only negative I see is indeed the GMAT score so I hope you are right when you say that an improvement is achievable there. If you reach 680 or above and have excellent essays, as well as work on your post-MBA goal a bit (it is too generic as it is now, in my opinion), I would say your chances for admission at all these schools are good.
