Can some pls evaluate m profile and tell me my chances ,what can i do in 1 next year to make it better

Bachelor’s in Computer Science (CGPA: 7.0, cleared backlog)
  • GMAT Focus: 640 (85th percentile)
  • Reason for low GPA: Professional athlete (Basketball) for 2 years + pursued Game Development & 3D Software independently (not covered in degree)
Work Experience (3 years in Gaming & Tech)

  • Startup 1: Joined as an intern, converted to full-time in 2 months; saved company significant costs by handling multiple roles efficiently
  • Startup 2 (Current Role):
    • Started as Environment Artist, promoted to Lead Environment Artist in 8 months
    • Key contributor in developing a real estate visualization product, leading to a merger with a larger company
  • Leadership & Extracurriculars
  • Basketball Team Captain: Led a historically weak team to 4 tournament wins
  • Unreal Engine Instructor: Taught juniors at university to identify and develop talent, filling a knowledge gap in the country

While your entrepreneurial experience will be value-adding, ff you are applying to INSEAD, it would make sense for you to work on improving your GMAT score (significantly); aim for a score upwards of 685 on the GMAT; in addition, INSEAD prefers strong international experience so if this is something you can work on, it will be very desirable.

Hello iampankajbhati,

I would suggest focusing on highlighting your strengths and how they align with your career goals through your current relevant experience. A high GPA, solid internships with post-study experience, and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities are preferred by top schools like INSEAD. Additionally, a GMAT score of 675+ is recommended.

I would suggest showcasing your sports profile can further enhance your application.

Hi,

Its great that you are thinking about profile enhancement a year ahead of applying. To begin with, you can focus upon increasing your GMAT score and aim for a 685+. Your GPA is average, so a higher GMAT score will strengthen your academic arc, which is a requirement at top b-schools.

In terms of other profile enhancement, b-schools evaluate your leadership potential and your achievements, impact and career progression. So your work related achievements will be very important and these essentially revolve around how you have made the business better (increased revenues, profits, reduced costs, new partnerships, more efficiency et.). You seem to have such contributions, but as you work in startups, try to be more involved on the business side. Because the larger focus is on your career trajectory, bear in mind that a recommendation from your basketball captain (I guess at college?) will not have any significance in MBA applications. B-schools will want to see recos from your supervisors.

Secondly, you can also enhance your profile by being active in extra curricular activities like community engagement and following your other pursuits. Now, it seems thar you don't have much ECA experience from the time you graduated, and you should definitely build upon this area.

If you are planning to apply solely to INSEAD, then it would be a risky move. INSEAD prefers applicants who have international experience or work in international teams even if they don't travel abroad on work. Moreover, you must think of why is INSEAD a compelling option for you given your post-MBA career goal. The b-school is very selective and they expect applicants to have this understanding and certainty that only INSEAD can help in their career progression. If your main reason to apply is because the program is a year long (or another similarly impersonal reason), then the adcom will not be convinced.

You should caste a wider net of b-schools. If you have worked in smaller startups, it becomes a challenge to explain / prove your work and applying across a range of b-schools will help you spread your risk.

iampankajbhati - Improving the GMAT score should be your first area of focus, ideally aiming for a 675-685+ GFE.

Your work-ex has some interesting angles, given the business roles within the start-up environment. Have you worked with teams/ clients abroad? If not, pursuing such opportunities can help strengthen the profile.

Regarding extracurriculars, it would be interesting to add more consistency and impact to activities you're already involved in. This can help showcase a strong personality outside work.
