Hi everyone,
I am planning to apply for INSEAD MBA for the August 2026 or January 2027 intake and would appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile.
Academics:
I am planning to apply for INSEAD MBA for the August 2026 or January 2027 intake and would appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile.
Academics:
- 10th (CBSE): 10/10 CGPA, India
- 12th (CBSE): 95%, India
- B.Tech (Computer Science): 7.27 CGPA, India
- Masters (Computer Science): 3.8/4.0 CGPA, United States
- GMAT Classic (Jan, 2024): 740 (Do I need to take GMAT FE?)
- 3+ years as a Software Development Engineer (SDE) in the US (Amazon + Current role)
- Experience in backend engineering, distributed systems, APIs, and product development
- Currently working at NIH (CSR) via Leidos.
- I have one Internship experience in the US and 2 Internships in India as well.
- Director’s Award at NIH (considered prestigious)
- 9th position in National Geomap Quiz (2014)
- State-level Gold Medal in Inline Skating (2012–2013)
- TEDx organizer during B.Tech
- Head of PR for annual techno-cultural college fest
- Member of the college cricket team
- Short-term (0-3 years post MBA): Transition into Product Management or Tech Strategy roles, ideally in global markets or back in India.
- Target roles include Product Manager or Technical Product Lead (especially in AI, developer platforms, or health-tech ecosystems).
- Long-term (3-8+ years post MBA): Hopefully move into Tech Leadership (CPO/CTO path), leveraging my engineering background and international exposure.
- How competitive is this profile for INSEAD?
- Does my Masters GPA + work experience compensate for the lower B.Tech CGPA?
- Do I have a strong enough spike or differentiator?
- Which intake might suit my profile better – August or January?
- Any suggestions on how to position my background effectively in essays and interviews?

From a timeline perspective, chasing Aug'26 cycle won't be ideal at all since you'll be applying very late. Target Jan'27. To hedge your risks, spread your options to more schools such as IMD/HEC too. Your international experience will come in handy for European schools.

Some thoughts on your profile evaluation and plans.
- The academic arc looks decent given the master's GPA but tough to assess since you've not mentioned institute names - have either been feeders? The UG GPA is on the lower side but shouldn't be a deal breaker. Your GMAT score will be alright when it comes to INSEAD and no, you don't need to take the FE.
- The professional profile shows promise owing to the Amazon brand association. The NIH transition will need to be put into perspective though. How has your trajectory been - faster than the norm/at par?
- While collegel level ECs look alrigth, anything since you graduated? Top schools value solid ECs/volunteer efforts.
