Hi Alex,

After the application is done. I would like to let know my application results.

You were quite right about my background. I didn't get interview invite from HBS, Wharton, CBS, MIT in the first round.

In the second round, I was lucky enough to get into Booth, Kellogg (50k fellowship), NYU(full scholarship) and UCLA(70k fellowship)

I appreciated your evaluation.

What I suggest is to swap out HBS and Wharton for Cornell and Yale - it'll give you a better shot at getting into more schools. With your profile, I think that HBS and Wharton are long shots; nothing wrong with you, it's just that you're up against way too many applicants with profiles that the adcoms prefer (blue chip bankers, consultants, etc.). Wharton *might* give you a look (i.e. an interview) as they do like high GMAT scores but again your odds are long.

Other than that, I think CBS and MIT are stretches but where you have enough of a chance that it's worth at least giving them a shot. Schools like NYU, UCLA, Cornell and Yale are sweet spots, where you'll have a more reasonable shot of getting into. Schools outside the top 16 (Tepper, Texas, UNC, USC, Georgetown, etc.) are safeties.

My post-MBA goal is to work in investment management. So Booth is the best fit for me. It's a pity that I gave up so much money. My friend even asked me if I just have a problem with money. :(

Your friend is a clever guy. :) But given your goals, I think you can be pretty sure you made the right choice. And when your signing bonus takes a huge chunk out of that potential 50K you could have saved, you'll begin to realize it was worth it.

Congrats! and good luck.
