Hi Ankur,

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading your profile and reviewed it similar to other candidates' profiles when I worked in admissions.

Given your background, I think Tepper, ISB, IIM-B, Fuqua, and Ross are programs that will be a good fit. The reason is that from a career standpoint, you have gained strong exposure across several world-class brands such as Oracle, Tech Mahindra and Infosys. I also like that (in short time) you gained solid teamwork, analytical and leadership skills across cross-functional and extracurricular settings.

Additionally, your GMAT score of 760 falls within the competitive range for these schools based on our experience last year. My concern initially was your GPA, as it is slightly out of the recommend school ranges. I feel that your GMAT score will balance this out in your academic profile, since the GPA is only one of six components that you will be evaluated on. It is by no means a "deal-breaker."

Thanks a lot for the suggestions

More or less these are pretty much the schools which I had also shortlisted. I have a GPA of 72/100 Any idea how much would that be on a scale of 4? One quick question: Do I stand even a long and stretched shot at schools ranking from 5-20 according to FT? If yes, then which one. Regards, Ankur

Hi Ankur,

I would encourage you to apply to schools such as Booth, Haas, Kellogg, and Stern.

Regardless of the opinions you receive from forums, please apply to the programs which attract you the most and do not underestimate the professional and academic background that you possess. I find that 90% of MBA candidates I have worked with tend to "opt-out" of a program's application process as they feel that they do not stand a chance. They do this before the school can even receive their application. Regardless of where you fall with your competition, let the program make the ultimate decision on your candidacy. Most candidates share with me how they are pleasantly surprised when they are accepted and never thought they stood a chance in top tier programs.

The worst thing that you can do as a candidate is underestimate your background. I feel that this is worse than receiving a rejection from any program. The best thing you can do is take your "best foot forward" and leave the decision to the schools. Please do not "opt-out" of your dream schools because you think you may not stand a chance. Being fearless is one of the greatest qualities of global leaders throughout history :-D

Lastly, your GPA will depend on the grade received, course type, and if all of the course grades had the same weight or not (major vs. electives). Based on my experience, a 72/100 will be approximately a 3.3/4.0. Again, it would depend on several factors from your transcripts.
