I've actually worked in Berlin for a year and then worked with another German company here in NYC for a while - so I'm familiar with the Germans to some extent. The short answer to your question is that the Germans do NOT hold an MBA degree with the same level of regard they have for a PhD. If you browse through the about us pages of consulting sites in Germany you'll see that most of the partners have PhDs...not MBAs. The other thing I noticed in Germany is that Germans tend to want to work with other Germans. If you're not German they are going to be a lot more reticent about taking advice from you or promoting you to a top position. Obviously I'm making this statement based on my personal observations but a lot of other foreigners echoed this to me as well. In general if a foreigner asks me about working in Germany I will try to steer them away from it...especially someone who is looking for a senior level position like yourself (Germany can be ok if you're just starting out your career though).

Why did you want to go to Germany??? Did you work there previously? I'm happy to do a call with you because I think it would be faster. I think there are a lot of questions surrounding what you want to do with an MBA....if you can achieve that...and where.

I do think that with 9 years of experience you're too old for a FT 2-year MBA in the US. Why don't you want to do an eMBA??? You still get the MBA experience and all the cache that the brand name of the school brings to the table - plus you get to be in class with people who are more experienced and will challenge your thinking - as opposed to you being the oldest in class and probably getting bored.

I think that the positions that companies recruit for at those schoools are going to be too junior for you (and that is why you're too old). I'm a little worried about the same thing in Europe but students tend to be older there and with a one-year MBA that means you'll be a bit younger when you graduate.

Anyway, feel free to reach out [email protected] or post something else here.

Best,
Leah

Hi there,
Yes, admissions is competitive for these programs. Have you considered other programs in EU/US that are 1 year such as USC Marshall 1 year program in US or Oxford/Cambridge in UK?
Best of luck!
