Greetings!
I'm looking for a little advice on bolstering my profile. Am applying to Johnson, Columbia, BU and BC. Here's what I have:
GMAT: 750 (unofficial...took it just 3 days ago!)
Undergrad: 2.58, Environmental Science Major, Coast Guard Academy
Work Experience: 4 years enlisted in the Coast Guard, 4+ years Coast Guard Officer (currently filling a position for a rank higher than my own)
Extra Curricular Activities: In college: 4 years indoor/outdoor track and field (2 years as team captain) and school record holder, Academy glee club and all-male a cappella group. Outside of college: community service with soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and animal shelters; 3 years of involvement in community choirs
Other Education: National Outdoor Leadership School - Alaska Mountaineering Expedition (A); Corporate Finance grad course (A)
Obviously, the most glaring hurdle is my undergrad GPA. I've heard a high GMAT score could "make up" for a low GPA, but mine is
really low! Plan B: take some other grad courses to demonstrate I can handle the academics of B-school (hence why I took Corporate Finance.) I've also heard that extensive work experience makes the undergrad GPA less important to AdComs...but I don't want to trust that.
Any advice would be appreciated.
