Undergrad school/major: Emory, graduated 2014 (4 years of work experience upon grad school matriculation), Mathematics and Economics BAGood school- the 3.25 GPA is on lower side.
Other education/coursework: Coursera Python certificate, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
Race/nationality: White
Sex: Male
Stats
GMAT Score (include breakdown!): 770 (50Q/46V/8IR/5AWA)
Undergrad GPA: 3.25 (Started out pre-med which did not go well, then started to do better once I switched majors, but suffered a family tragedy my senior year which further hurt my grades)So yes while the 3.25 gpa is not the best- the GMAT really covers this for most schools except maybe H/S/W. There are lots of programs who will get all weak in the knees when they see the 770 and will be so busy looking at that, they won't care as much about the 3.25.
You can certainly address the lower gpa situation with family issues in a brief optional essay.
MBA Info
Goal of MBA: I want to use my automotive industry knowledge to move into a strategy role with a leader in the transportation tech space (Google, Apple, Tesla, Uber, Lyft, etc.). Knowing that's a narrow niche with high barriers to entry, I would also consider other corporate strategy/corporate development jobs
Target schools: Wharton, MIT, Kellogg, Yale, Duke, Ross, Emory (with scholarship)
NOTE: I had interviews at MIT, Kellogg and Haas when I applied last year and didn't get into any. Guessing years of experience was a big factor there. Thought that might be useful info. Since applying, I've started volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and am on track to being promoted to Senior Manager before I re-apply (very few, if any, people my age make it to that level of title in my company).
It's a good sign that you got interviews at all those places- in the re-app process you should really think about how you have improved. And if you truly want to be thorough, I suggest you do a ding analysis with you on at least one of your top programs and we can go through with a fine tooth comb what you need to improve to be successful in this next application. This is the link to learn how we can help you. I truly think with some fine tuning of your application strategy, you have the building blocks here to be successful. We'd love to talk more about how we can help. Here is the link to follow up: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com ... b-visitor/
