Overall, it sounds like you will be given fair consideration for LBS. Your extracurricular activities are good, but you do need to emphasize major accomplishments in a convincing way. I'm not seeing it here as much (not saying it doesn't exist!) The same goes for your career experience. We need a very strong story that will pop off the page.

What about GPA/academic performance? We're not seeing that here.

Lastly, you need to reconsider your post-MBA goals. Those might in fact be what you end up pursuing, but that is a very clear path. Your why MBA/post-MBA essays are going to come off really bland if you adhere to this common trajectory. You want something that is way more unique.

In general, you have a strong overall profile. I suspect with the right essays and CV/resume, and an effective interview, you should be in good shape.

Let us know if we can discuss further. We offer free consultations if you are interested in our services.

The same basic pros and cons of your candidacy apply for INSEAD.

In general, these schools are not ALL that different. Yes, "fit" is a consideration but that's something difficult to ascertain over GMAT Club (hence, why us speaking would be helpful!)

INSEAD is arguably the most desirable MBA program in Europe, so I would say you will still stand a chance but might have a slightly harder time. Nevertheless, apply. You just never know and you are in the range for consideration.

Best,

Hi Hitesh,

as you seem to be applying to both LBS and INSEAD, I will give you my feedback with both b-schools in mind.
Overall, I like your work experience. You have worked on several important projects and that should help in coming up with the right bunch of stories, specifically for the INSEAD app. Both b-schools have long recommendations and this would provide your recommenders a chance to detail out your experiences and achievements.
The resume is yet another component where your work experience needs to shine. Both b-schools are very, very competitive for applicants with your profile, so your resume should be strong. Essentially this means that you are able to show your A).Quantified achievements, and B).Leadership skills- this specifically is an area that many applicants are not able to bring out in the resume (It goes far beyond starting every resume pointer with Led/ managed).
Your ECAs sound decent - you will have to write about them in both applications and be sure to show the impact you have had through every activity.
You haven't mentioned about your international experience which would be a criterion for both business schools.

I am not quite sure about your goals. Specifically the long term goals sound very wide.

On the whole, you have a good profile, however, you are applying from a common pool of applicants. So, your application will need to work a little harder in making you stand out. Good luck and reach out if you wish to discuss any specific elements of your profile.

I am very happy to hear any other input on my chances and improvement areas as well!

Thanks in advance :)

Your entire profile is really strong. The essentials are:

(1) Acquiring a competitive GMAT score. Although a score in the high 600s would be nice, it is not necessary to have the best. Better still if you can surpass 700.

(2) Clarifying your career objective. Establish a direct link between your ST and LT objectives. They now seem to be rather unrelated, but I can see how you can connect them.

(3) Create a collection of essays and a CV/resume that is more than just a laundry list of qualifications. Your profile contains a lot of positive information. It's crucial that you organise this information and present yourself in a coherent manner.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to setup a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.

Overall, good profile. I believe you will be given a fair look by INSEAD (and other peer institutions.) You have solid work experience (with results!), good international exposure, and an intriguing career goal.

The primary issues you will face include your age (INSEAD skews slightly older, thankfully) and your somewhat limited extracurricular involvement. That being said, you can probably talk up your work on the NGO to expand your impact from a community/leadership standpoint. Your GMAT score is also good but not amazing. It should be fine for INSEAD but it will be tough for top US programs given that you are coming from a competitive demographic.

For someone like you with strong pros and cons, the essays are going to be very critical. How you tell your narrative and bucket all of the above together is paramount. Assuming you are applying now, please reach out to us to chat further. A link to sign up for a free consultation is below:

Hi mbaaspirant777 hope this finds you well

You have a stellar profile! Congratulations
Very high chance of making it to INSEAD even in the late round.

I wish you had a higher score on the quant section (INSEAD looks at the quant and verbal scores separately) given the competitive demographic and your finance background, but your solid acads history should assuage any concerns the adcom may have here.

Best wishes

Regards

Hey mbaaspirant777,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile looks good on the surface. On the Academic end, 710 is a good GMAT score, when coupled with 3.75 GPA, any additional academic accomplishments will definitely work in your favor.

For INSEAD you will be evaluated on the basis of the following values:
1. Ability to contribute
2. Leadership skills
3. International motivation
4. Academics

I can clearly see a mix of 1,2, and 3 in your profile. For point 4, your overall profile can compensate. On the work front, 9+ years of experience will land you in a comfortable position to answer the AdComs on various parameters including your major achievements, career trajectory (Promotions every 2 years), roles and responsibilities and things you’ve done out of the box. I am pretty sure that your role as an Investment Analyst (VP), covering the Global Resources Sector. and directly feeding $1bn of investments would stand to be your USP. International Exposure is greatly valued by the AdComs as it diversifies your profile and helps you build global connections. Having traveled to over 20 countries and working in 4 countries on 3 different continents would make your profile stand out. We have helped many applicants to get into INSEAD, you can read one of the success stories- Mr. Senior Product Manager- LBS, INSEAD, IESE (25K Scholarship)

Coming to the ECs, ECs play an important role in an application and help add value to the profile. Your involvement in sport activities (cricket and soccer) and being a founding member of an NGO helps to display your social responsibilities. For a better understanding, you could refer to our article on Significance of Extracurriculars for MBA Application. This article will definitely help you bring out your ECs in a professional way to the AdComs.

Overall you have good profile and have a shot at INSEAD. What’s going to matter most in your profile is how you connect the dots and create an amazing narrative. Hence, If you’d like, we are happy to connect you with our Profile Experts (who are alums and students of top B-Schools) who will discuss your profile at length in a 30-45 minutes call and provide you with feedback based on your aspirations and goals. Feel free to schedule a call with us here for in-depth profile evaluation (and some networking on the side!)

No one knows the application process better than the individuals who have gone through it. We match you with alums from your desired business school. Meet our Panel of Consultants.

Career Goals: Strategy & Ops leadership role at a Consumer Tech firm post MBA with a longer-term aspiration of Entrepreneurship in the consumer industry

Thanks!

Hi Bschool2023,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. To begin with, you have a high GMAT score. So, this part is sorted. Your work experience at MBB appears to be fairly decent. You must effectively demonstrate your responsibilities and duties and how your work has impacted the organization. Regarding global exposure, you must emphasize your global awareness and ability to work in a multicultural setting. Since you worked at a startup, you must have seen and contributed to its growth, and you can tell a great narrative about it. You made a positive impact on this startup since you worked in many domains at the same time and helped it grow (overall). The finest aspect of your experience is that you have dealt with clients from other countries; you may be able to share the differences you saw and the lessons you learned from these international clients. Try to give your post-MBA goals a global outlook. Overall amazing work experience at such a young age.

Your ECs are demonstrating some of your leadership abilities. If you are currently playing tennis, you can talk about that, and it may work for you if described well.

Your post-MBA goals make sense and are aligned with your prior work experience. You must back them up with the skills you wish to acquire and how an MBA from a specific school can assist you in achieving them. Overall, you have a good profile and a good chance at the schools you have chosen. I believe your GMAT is strong; you must concentrate on other aspects of your profile. You still need to convey the proper narrative (and here is where even the best candidates fall short). So, keep in mind that your 'Branding for MBA' is crucial, and do not take it lightly, especially for schools like INSEAD which heavily focuses on personality and impact through your work-experience. You have an excellent chance at all of the business schools you've chosen. What's going to matter most about your application is how you link experiential dots and make a great narrative. If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the schools. Feel free to schedule a call with us here for in-depth profile evaluation (and some networking on the side with Alums of Top business schools)

You have a solid profile and a good career plan. As long as you hit that GMAT target of 720-740, you should be competitive for INSEAD.

I don't believe the 1-year MBA (outside of the standard Cambridge/Oxford programs) are a good fit for your background. Those 1-year MBAs are more designed for folks with business pedigree and deeper experience. The full-time MBA programs are a better fit.

Good luck. Please let us know if we can of any additional help.

Hi shahzenkhan,

Thank you for sharing your profile; you have an excellent one. And you have some international experience. I'm confident you'll have interesting stories to highlight one of the key qualities INSEAD looks for in applicants: international motivation.

For INSEAD you will be evaluated based on the following values:
1. Ability to contribute
2. Leadership skills
3. International motivation
4. Academics

In your profile, I see aspects of 1, 2, and 3. However, I will be able to comment more thoroughly on point 4 after you have your GMAT result. Considering the pool from which you come, aim for 720+ to strengthen your profile. You've also shown leadership traits in your profile, which, if told correctly and convincingly, may help you stand out. I assume you have some amazing experiences to share because you have worked on many projects in your current and previous organizations. Your post-MBA goals seem in alignment with your career and sound ambitious, which is great. It’s okay if you are confused rn, but you at least have the direction where you want to go. AdComs are not expecting you to have exact goals. I would advise you to really do good comprehensive research on Insead and its values to exhibit how you contribute to its community and vision. You may want to read an article on how to get into INSEAD, you will get some insights.

Overall, you have a strong profile and a good chance at INSEAD. Your experience and post-MBA goals, I feel, are your most valuable assets. However, a lot depends on your GMAT, and when targeting top B-schools, you must understand that they are not short of stellar profiles; thus, you must be clear on how an MBA can help you reach your goals and mention your motivation/driving force, aspirations, and finally, how you can add diversity to the cohort. If you’d like, we are happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to INSEAD. Feel free to schedule a call with us for in-depth profile evaluation (and some networking on the side with Alums of Top business schools) at you convenience.

Cheers!

Hi shahzenkhan in addition to the useful previous evaluations, I would like to add some points from an insider's perspective.

1. In my experience, a sustained international career focus tends to do well for INSEAD applicants. Therefore, in your case, it will be useful to not just tell what you have been doing in the entire ME and North Africa market this year, but also what new feats you plan to achieve there professionally in 2023.

2. The O&G sector feeds into INSEAD in decent numbers every year. When I say this, a few top brands come to my mind (think Schlum, ExxonMobil, and Shell, to name a few). I see a lot of Indian folks at INSEAD and other top B Schools from Schlumberger. It would be interesting to know if you currently work at one of these or are associated with any of them in some capacity. It will do you much good if you use some brand recall such as your clients, suppliers, vendors, etc., in your essays and resume. It convinces adcom about your network in the industry you plan to target post-MBA.

3. Streamline your goal- "I would like to start an innovative Warehouse booking and management platform to streamline the storage industry "
I am not clear how the above is positioned wrt your experience in the O&G industry. But if you are really passionate about it, build up your application such that it automatically leads to your goals when you come to the goals essay. Select your experiences for the essays carefully, so you show a deeper understanding of the problems that you plan to solve post-MBA.

4. Target a 740+ on GMAT. You would be competing against IITians and T1 Commerce schools undergrads from the O&G and energy industry. Therefore, do your best in every aspect.

5. Make your essays interesting. INSEAD is probably one of the longest MBA applications. Make sure you are able to hold the reader's attention with many many interesting personal and professional stories.

Best wishes

Best wishes
