Try including schools in the range 10-20 as a safety belt. Amazon and like hire from top 20 schools, so you would be good to go.

Hi solerenegade,

Absolutely not. That is not true by any means. I speak from our experience last year.

Last year, a MAC consultant successfully placed candidates at the Stanford GSB who were international students. One of them worked for a small start-up prior to starting the GSB this fall. The other candidate was an (non-seasoned) entrepreneur who started a small family business. Neither candidates held a prominent brand name firm or academic institution in their background.

This myth can easily be validated by the many online postings from candidates being denied from Stanford, despite having brand names (Microsoft, McKinsey, Google, Groupon, etc) on their resume. The worst thing that you can do as a candidate is underestimate your background. I feel this is worse than receiving a rejection from any program. The best thing you can do is take your best foot forward and leave the decision to the schools. Please do not "opt-out" of your dream schools because you think you may not stand a chance.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions or would like to have a free evaluation by one of our top-tier Admissions Consultants at any point.

Best wishes,
Sue and the MAC Team
