Are you kidding me out here? No way buddy, just forget GMAT - its a thing of the past really. IR - no one really cares yet.

Though I usually recommend balancing things out, but in your case, it wouldn't hurt to be aggressive. Why apply to so many schools when you can do with fewer? You may take some inspiration from the post about someone who did it the brave way and went into a happy dilemma of Stan Vs HBS.

Cheers,

Put the GMAT books down and step away from them slowly! A 750 is an awesome score! You're 100% set up for the M7/Tuck/Darden run you're envisioning. You, my friend, need to focus on those apps. It's time to rock and roll!

Hi,

What you need more than anything else is a solid plan for what you want to do with the rest of your life - professionally speaking. If you can do that, you should be in line for the schools that you have in mind.

I wouldn't worry too much about the IR - the best of applications have weaknesses (with the definition of weakness being relative.) Try to come across as a candidate who is confident about his strengths and accomplishments. Highlight what you will bring to the table. Don't highlight (relatively) trivial insecurities.

You should be fine.

Regards,
Karthik

Hi all,

I recently took the GMAT for the second time and received a 750 (AWA 6, IR 6, Q49, V45). While I'm sort of bummed, as most of the Q49/V45 splits got 760's, I definitely can't complain with my score. I took the exam for the first time last month and scored a 700 (AWA 6, IR 8, Q46, V40).

Anyways, I had a few questions in light of my academic profile below.

GMAT: 750 (AWA 6, IR 6, Q49, V45)
GPA: 3.94 from a top-tier public university (UCLA/UVA/UMich) in Economics
Work Experience: 2 years bulge bracket investment bank and almost 2 years at a notable middle-market private equity firm
Extras: Some volunteer work, largely in pro-bono consulting and professional mentorship
Target Schools: M7/Tuck/Darden exclusively
Career Interests: Returning to the private equity space, maybe exploring funds overseas
Demographics: White male, no hooks

- How bad is my IR Score (6) for such caliber of schools? I come from a relatively privileged background, so I'm worried that any irregularity might crush my application.
- For supplemental essay responses, should I explain my IR score as being unrepresentative of my overall application?
- Is Q49 good enough for top finance programs (Wharton/Booth for example)? It sits at 79th percentile currently, but could those schools look exclusively for 50+?
- If anything is glaring, how can I best improve my profile over the next few months before the application cycle?

Thank you so much for the help! I sincerely appreciate your honest feedback.
