Just wondering if the following list of schools is a proper list for my profile. Thank you in advance for any advice or info!
Applying: Fall 2020 (for term beginning Fall 2021)
GMAT: 710 (45/42/8/6) - Currently studying to take again
GPA: 3.8 (Economics & Sport Management) from top 20 school
Former Division 1 Athlete
Work Experience: will be 3.25 years at time of application. 1 Year at large Energy company in Business Development and 2 years at medium sized company in Corporate Finance
Goals: Marketing Analytics or working on the business side of sports for either an individual team or league
Extracurricular Activities: Volunteer at local animal shelter with Cats and Horses, Alumni Interviewer to help admissions department at undergrad university
Target Schools: Duke, NYU, Columbia, UCLA, Chicago, Michigan, Northwestern
Your GPA, and work experience looks good. Your previous experience as a athlete actually makes you a somewhat unique applicant and adds a strength as well. MBA programs want to see a diverse pool of applicants, and I don't imagine they have a lot of former division 1 athletes with your stats apply. Your GMAT is a little low for the schools you mentioned, but not super low for a domestic student. If you could get your GMAT up to a 730 you would be golden, but I think you could get in to one of the schools you have listed as you are now. If you are able to raise your GMAT 20 points or more, I would be confident applying. If you are unable to raise your GMAT, I would still apply, but also add 2 or 3 T20 schools like Virginia, University of North Carolina, UT Austin, UC Berkley, etc. You may also consider applying to a top European school like London Business School. LBS is typically considered up there with NYU, Columbia, Chicago, but typically has GMAT scores about 20 points lower that schools in the M7.
Hope I was able to help.
