Looking to apply for the MBA class starting Fall 2025.
Demographic: Vietnamese M, 26yo
Education: high school and a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy), low-medium ranking school. Picked the school for $$$ and shorter time to degree in comparison to the normal UG->Grad school route.
GPA: first 2 yrs of the program aka. undergraduate portion:3.9; entire 6 year: 3.5
GMAT: 730 (Q49, V40), planning to retake for 750
WE: Got a full time return offer at big pharma that has an office in Vietnam after several summer internships, now 2.5 yrs in medical function (2 promotions internally, managed a 50k euro budget to expense for medical related events). Ran regional workshops for 60+ people in Asia for the company. (For context all of my positions are quite senior for a new grad, who would normally expect to apply to a similar positions after 4-5 years in the industry)
Recently switched to another big pharma in a different managerial role-commercial/marketing function (recruiting for 2-3 positions that report directly to me). This is also quite a senior position, JD says 8y of experience but we all know JDs are just wishlists for companies.
EC: 2y tennis coaching for local children. Not much else.
School target: HSW, MIT, CBS, NYU, INSEAD
Career target: VC/PE in healthcare (I believe that HCM in Wharton has pretty good placement for this)> MBB>>>going back to big pharma in upper management roles in bigger markets.
Purposedly picking mainly East Coast US school and M7 for the abundance of biotech companies in MA and traditional big pharma in NY/NJ, not to mention VC and PE.
Questions:
1. Would the “low” GMAT cripple my application, given the seemily inflated avg score over the past few years? I believe I can at most squeeze out another 740-750 but not 760. I’m also aware that my GPA is on the low end but can I explain that by saying that it’s due to the nature of an advanced medical degree, or would that still be a dealbreaker?
2. I am not sure if I am overrepresented due to being Vietnamese and having no US work experience besides stints at Walgreens and hospitals for mandatory training?
3. What’s the job market looking like for international students after M7 in the afformentioned industries? Should I also apply for other schools? (For all these roles I would prefer to work in the US. If I’m enrolling in INSEAD, I would also consider European/ other East Asian countries for more international exposure before going back to Vietnam)
