Hello,

I am joining a masters program in Computer Science at a Canadian university this fall. Five or six years down the line, I want to do MBA and I wish to work in consulting (strategy or management).
I have to choose between two universities for my masters in computer science now.

One is ranked 10-14 in Canada for computer science but it's global ranking is 450+.
The other is ranked 17-20 in Canada for computer science but its global ranking is ~150.

So I have the following two questions:
1. How much of an impact does post-graduate university has while admission for MBA?
2. Which university should I join to enhance my chances at an MBA later? Should I consider program ranking or global ranking?

Thanks!

Hi spica,

Pick one which would help you get the best career trajectory, which could be as simple as landing the best first job. Second, the reputation of your program is more important (although, in your case, it’s not much different between the two options) than that of University. (You don’t study in the University. It's somewhat abstract. You study in a particular program. It's more concrete.)

See, there is something you are missing out? Which one of these colleges will help you get into a better company/professional opportunity after college. Because the 3 years you spend at work will make a difference to your MBA application.

Does ont of the colleges offer better startup opportunities for example? Evaluate this.

If all else is equal, pick the one with better global branding.

Karthik
