For question 2, try finding the possible 3-people cases where the batchmates would go on the swing.

Since the order doesn't matter and because Tony and Rahul can't be together due to weight/space restrictions, this brings the number of possible cases down to a countable level.

T, S, U --> no
T, S, X --> no
T, U, X --> no

R, S, U --> no (by extension, T wouldn't be there)
R, S, X --> yes (by extension, T wouldn't be there)
R, U, X --> yes (by extension, T wouldn't be there)

S, U, X --> yes

In all the cases where the batchmates would go on the swing, Xavier is there.

As we can see here, in all the cases where the batchmates would go on the swing, Xavier is included.

Conversely, in all the cases, Tony wouldn't be included.

Five friends: R, S, T, U and X, out of which R & T are of heavy build.

Swing:
Weight restriction - Only one heavy build can be there on the swing
Space restriction - At the max 3 with only one heavy build.

Preferences:
X will not go with T, while U will always require X in the swing.

(1) Now, if T is there, U and X will not be there due to preferences of X. Also, R cannot be there because of the build.
So, T can only have S with him, meaning that T will never be there on the swing if 3 people go for the swing.

(2) As can be seen T will never be there if three people are on the swing.
So we are left with R, S, U and X, but U will go only if X goes.
THus X has to be there on the swing...R, S and X; R, U and X and S, U and X.

(3) Next, we have only two who went for the swing. options are
Tony and Rahul: Both are of neavy build, so cannot be together....NO
Tony and Uday: Uday has to be with X...NO
Rahul and Xavier: No restriction between X and R..YES

Thanks!
You are right and we were aware as there were some tech problem in formatting of this question at some moment. I am sure you would find the question and answer fine now.

5 people: R S T U X
2 of heavy build: T R

Swing:
+ only 3 people per ride
+ at most 1 heavy build

Impossible pair: X-T; T-R
Required: If U => X

1. Based on the information given and the knowledge that finally three of them went for a ride, select for Definitely YES the person who must have taken the ride [Xavier]

3 people => There is only 1 ride

If Tony goes => X and R won't go
Then there is T U S, but U must go with X
==> Tony doesn't go

Possible combinations from the 4 remaning
+ If U goes => There must also be X on the ride
==> 2 combinations: U X R; U X S
+ If U doesn't go => 1 combination: X R S

Of total 3 possible combinations, X is always on the ride

2. Based on the information given and the knowledge that finally three of them went for a ride, select for Definitely NO the person who must not have taken the ride. [Tony]

As analysed above, Tony must have not take the ride

3. If only two of the five batchmates went for a ride, select Yes for the option that is a possible combination of batchmates who could have gone for the ride, and select No for the option that is not a possible combination of batchmates who could have gone for the ride.

Tony and Rahul => No
Because of the weight restriction

Tony and Uday => No
But if U goes, then there must be X on the ride but T won't go with X

Rahul and Xavier => Yes
No restriction

How is it possible that Samuel will go in any combination since it mentions that Samuel will not go unless 3 people decide to go and the questions mention that only 3 people are going on a ride?
