ACADEMICS:
10th - 85%
12th - 81.4%
Graduation (BE - Mechanical Engineering) | 7.2/10 CGPA | Top 10 private institutions in India | I won 6 b-plan competitions across India in college, was a Club President
GRE - 328/340 (V-158, Q-170, AWA - 4)
WORK EXPERIENCE
9.5 years (as of June-end 2020)
Failed Education Entrepreneur (8+ years )
I became an education entrepreneur in 2011. During this time, we had highly recognised programs with over 140k paying customers, 40k+ in the final year. We raised USD 275k+ from Indian & US VCs/angels. Won multiple accolades in India, USA. Speaker at TEDx and global platforms. Enterprise failed due to financial and profitability struggles.
Senior & Early Team Member @ Entrepreneurship Non-profit (1+ years)
Post shutting my startup in 2019, I joined a non-profit focused on enabling entrepreneurship in Senior Mgmt & one of the early employees (founders are known, respected globally). I lead org's efforts in seeding entrepreneurial ecosystems across two states in close partnership with Govts and others, and co-authored entrepreneurship strategy for one state. I also lead smaller projects around mentorship, etc. I also led a multi-million dollar fundraise from an international philanthropy org.
Other pro bono work:
I mentor/advise startup entrepreneurs during weekends, many programs by Indian & multilateral orgs for youth, micro-entrepreneurs.
POST MBA GOALS:
My long term goal is to go be an entrepreneur again but in the short run I believe roles in and around startups (leadership roles in mature startups, impact/early stage VC, etc.) would be most ideal.

Hi.
you have a great profile. Your entrepreneurial experience is not a failure. You ran the company successfully & scaled it for several years. The shutdown itself can offer an opportunity for reflection and invaluable lessons that will only help your success later in life. I see a structured career path with your current job and career goals, which will help you as you write your application. You are on the higher side of work Exp and age, but that can be justified - perhaps now is the right time for the MBA- and b-schools totally understand that.

- The academic arc sounds ok - it will be important to understand the actual brand of your college as top 10 can vary depending on various yardsticks. The average GPA will be a dampener at the M7 and the GRE is on the lower edge for the Indian candidate pool which tends to be in the 330+ range. A retake might be worth considering though not a total deal breaker I'd say.
- The professional profile is impactful given the scale your venture achieved. The biggest issue with startups can be lack of brand association. So, if some of your VCs were well-known, that'll help further. The current effort can be nicely weaved into your past failing to make for a really compelling pitch overall.
- The pro bono effort will help. It will be important to understand the scale/impact therein and also, if that's totally on an informal basis or you do that through some sort of semi-organized group/association. Also, anything else in the past?
- MBA after 30 is tricky. This is likely to make you a fair bit of an outlier at most of your target programs. The post-MBA plan should also be researched further - have you done any that shows such roles are available for fresh grads from your target schools? The answer is likely to be in the negative and something that'll make adcoms jittery. Something like the Sloan Fellows programs are likely to be a much better fit.
