Hi all - I was hoping if I can get an honest MBA profile evaluation.
Briefly,
- I am a 26 year old Indian female
- Education qualifications - Bachlor in Commerce from a leading university in India scoring 83% (graduated in 2012)
- Completed a 3 year specialisation degree in 2013 - Chartered Accountant (similar to US CPA)
- Have been working with a Big4 accounting firm since 2010 (3 years of internship and 5 years of qualified experience)
- Work profile includes M&A consultancy from a tax and regulatory stand point. Have been working on marquee deals, possess strong commercial acumen and singlehandedly closed many transactions
- Current position manager (received accelerated promotions and consistently a high rater in bell curve evaluation)
- I am a trained classical dancer and have also completed 4 (of 7) national level examinations for achieving the highest level of merit in classical dance in India.
- GMAT score 680 (Attempt 1: Q50, V32, Attempt: Q48, V35).
Why am I pursuing an MBA - after having worked by 5 years in an M&A profile, I wish to provide my career with the impetus where I can be in a position to front end deals, more specifically, I look for an Investment Banking and ultimately a private equity profile.
Can you tell me what is the likelihood of making it through Duke, Stern and Columbia? Also, it is important for me to achieve financial aid for my MBA program. I understand a financial aid/ scholarship at this GMAT score may be far-fetched, especially that Indians are the over-represented community.
Your insights and feedback on way forward would be highly appreciated

Thank you for your post and for sharing your profile. You have an impressive background and can have an interesting MBA application should you take the time to develop your story. If you are targetting top programs, you must make time to build your story. Your story is an essential component of the application process. Questions like, what do you bring to the table, why do you require an MBA, and why now, should have answeres clearly articulated in your application.
It would be great if you can retake the GMAT focusing on you verbal, as it's a bit low. If you do not feel like a retake will increase your score, then to do not spend your time preparing for a retake; instead, focus on the remainder of the material. As far as your school selection, Columbia and Stern might be a bit of a reach. You should consider expanding your target list to maximize your chances, especially if you are seeking scholarships.

Hi,
We have helped someone with a very similar profile like yours get into Duke. The similarities are: Female, BCom Graduate, CA, 3 year articleship (ofcourse) and 5 years work experience in a Big 4, in the tax advisory and then with some PE clients.
The dissimilarity is the GMAT score. She had a 710.
Ofcourse, you are a different person and things will work out differently for you. But a 680 is still less for these b-schools. For an Indian applicant, the ask is still higher.
I strongly recommend you retake GMAT. Even if you miss Fuqua's early application deadline, make it to their Round 1 in October.
