The level of the background verification is farily general and 30,000 view of the details rather than specifics of the details. They will verify the employment dates, position, and any other history possible but they won't be able to get specifics and details about projects, scholarships and things like that. So it is not something you should stress about - congrats on your admit!

I am admitted into an M7 school but I have a tricky situation here. I wonder if any of you have advice for me. I entered the information about one of my research experiences under the employment section in the app. I initially received $2,000 for my research project (a two-semester commitment). However, I did not finish the research program and chose to exit when I was halfway through (I had some other professional commitments to prioritize). As a result, the school took back a portion of the scholarship as an "over-award." Basically, I should have double-checked and entered $1000, rather than $2000 (even though this was the amount of money that I received in the beginning). The good thing is that I did put down the correct starting and ending dates of that experience. However, I still feel this issue is going to raise a red flag. Should I reach out to the school and let them know my oversight? I am not sure if this is a serious issue that could bring more issues.

Hey - Thoughts from your fellow applicant

Adcoms typically spend 15-20mins reviewing it and as per my research with if Revera doesn't / cannot check the numbers i guess

Imagine we often quantify the cost savings or the $ values in our work experience. The validity of these numbers is never questioned

Having said that i do acknowledge that scholarship and the above are not true comparables but i wouldn't reach out to the school and divert attention to something that might just be something trivial from their standpoint

Don't take my advice as the final one, i am just a fellow applicant and you should have been a bit careful with this while filling it out

I also had a question about ReVera - do they check with my employer on my title and salary as of the date I applied? Or do they check my current ones (whenever they start doing it probably after May)? I was promised a promotion and I added a bullet point in my resume about this promotion, but later on my boss told me that the promotion cycle was canceled. Will they check if I actually in fact ended up with the title to which I was promoted?

Hi. The background check will try to verify your employment and title you currently have…. They may not go into salary or promotion sequence. Just start date, current title…. Maybe comp but I am not so sure… since most standard background checks do not require this information and it is a bit sensitive info so I feel HR and supervisors would not be thrilled to be divulging it.

Thank you! Would they have me explain why I didn't actually get the promotion? Im just not sure if they will red flag it...

Hello jenniferlsq,

In all probability, they will only be interested in your current position. However, even if they do ask you the same, you can be completely candid about this.

All the best!

Hi, if I submit my Columbia MBA application on 5 April 2023 and write on my resume and application form that I still work for a company, but my last day in this company is actually on 24 March 2023, will this jeopardize my offer if I'm admitted? Kindly need your advice, thank you so much!

Do they specifically ask about your current employment? or is it just resume where you can put it Aug 2020 - Mar 2023?
One option is to submit your application on March 23rd...

P.S. I think it is totally fine if you are laid off or for some reason have left a company. I would be transparent about it unless you can submit on the 23rd...

bb thank you for replying!

They ask to upload a resume and also list 3 of our employers in the "Employment" section of the application form (including start and end months of employment in each employer).
I don't think I will be ready to submit the application on 23 March...I'm targeting 5 April to submit my application

The real reason why I will resign is that I already have an MBA offer letter from a school, but I still want to give my shot at Columbia...
