Purpose is to weaken the conclusion: "Hence, eating GM tomatoes regularly can effectively check the incidence of cancer."

Answer choice C states that drinking coffee is found to prevent cancer. And, those who were drinking coffee also ate GM tomatoes. Drinking coffee is an alternative to eating GM tomatoes when it comes to preventing cancer. This suggests that coffee is the object that prevents cancer, and tomatoes are just a byproduct. (Tomatoes are correlated but not causal when it comes to preventing cancer.) Thus, this weakens the conclusion.

I have clear vote for option b in this question

As weakener . If it’s established that the causes of cancer ( ie all causes ) are hereditary , how can we check the incendence of cancer by eating tomatoes genetically modified when faulty genes which are cause cannot be removed or modified .

Now in case of option c , there is no mention in argument that some study was conducted for people . If the study conducted was on let’s say animals - monkey , so this means we are assuming the study results were from ppl study .

My real question is when u have such strong logic on two items , how do u make choice and say for certain that b or c is the answer . I am pretty sure even gmat toppers will be 50 % divided on b and c option

Hello, Deepakjhamb. I echo the thoughts of DmitryFarber above, and I can only say I wish I had gotten back to you sooner. The question does seem a little loose in its construction, but I suspect it did not go through the expensive and time-consuming process that official questions take to go from question-writer to appearing on the actual exam. Take any non-official question with a grain of salt, no matter how high the quality may be. (In general, I find questions by Manhattan Prep and Veritas Prep to be closest to official questions, and in some cases, I would say they are the official questions, just with a facelift (probably to avoid lawsuits).)

Thank you for thinking to ask me about this one.

Thanks for the justification on this , really cool stuff . Actually it becomes very difficult in Critical reasoning not to be over critical when you are expected to be critical and just clutch on to undisputed answer as u told
