Hello,

I took the GMAT last week and scored a 770 (Q51 V45 IR8) but unfortunately only a 4.0 in the AWA (17th percentile). I wonder if the poor AWA score will have a negative impact on my applications to top schools.

Background information: I am a Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate from a respectable college in India, who just started working in an SF-based company's India office. I wish to apply to the top 10 schools (including H/W/S) after 4-5 years. Post MBA, I wish to stay in the technology sector.

Should I retake the GMAT or, instead, not worry and start working on my credentials for the application.

Thank you, in advance.

Hello anushrutgupta

Congratulations on the phenomenal score. Without going into detail, I'll just say- Focus on the applications.

Apart from that can't really help on profile evaluation as details are too little to comment. You can read here on complete profile details.

Start working on my credentials for the application? You already have the credentials. You have a terrific score and the AWA is no problem. Just look at your verbal? There's no problem. Now the part that is really important is to communicate all the great things about your profile. Because it's kind of pointless to have done all of this work unless you have the means to communicate the value of it to a universal audience. Profile building is over with now you have to do the thing where you sell yourself and if you're not good at that I really really suggest that you hire a consultant because many take the absolute wrong approach in this area. It's largely building an emotional connection with the reader keep that in mind.
