Hi everyone!

I'm a Canadian applicant currently applying to MBA programs in Canada, Australia, and the US, and I’d really appreciate your thoughts on US school selection.

A bit about me:

3 years of work experience in corporate communications and government
BA in Advertising (90/100 GPA, roughly a 4.0 equivalent) and an MA in Media Studies (with an A average)
GMAT Focus: 675
Gay Asian male (in case it’s relevant)

I’m especially interested in schools that offer scholarships, as the cost of American tuition is quite high for me. I’d love to hear any advice or suggestions you may have. Thanks so much for your valuable input!
Hi garfieldrew,

Your undergraduate and graduate degrees from reputable institutions demonstrate your academic abilities. Your experience in corporate communications and government aligns well with many MBA programs. A 675 is a solid score and can be competitive for many programs.

Remember, while a strong GMAT score and academic background are important, your unique experiences, leadership potential, and career goals will also play a significant role in your application.

We would like to understand your profile in depth to help you explore great university options where you stand a higher chance for scholarship. Our MBA consultants would be happy to connect with you over a free profile evaluation discussion. You can schedule a free consultation with our experts or connect directly with our experts via call at +91 7780769732.

garfieldrew Thanks for sharing. Would you be open to considering the schools in EU/UK. I see immense potential for getting coveted diversity scholarships along with the global top MBA tags from schools in the region (INSEAD, Oxford, IESE, HEC)

Best wishes

garfieldrew - It'd be highly speculative to suggest schools without understanding further context on your background (nationality, work-ex, extracurriculars etc.), career goals (which sectors/ functions are you targeting), and more factors such as these.

Broadly though, just looking at your score, some schools within US T15-25 could be looked at.

Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Arvind

Hi garfieldrew ,

Your profile seems to have a strong potential for the US MBA programs, especially those that value diverse perspectives and international experience. With a 4.0 equivalent GPA in your BA and a high MA result, your academic performance stands out, and your background in corporate communications and government provides a unique perspective that will differentiate you from applicants with more traditional business experience. As a gay Asian male, your story and perspective will be especially appealing to programs that emphasize inclusive leadership. Schools like NYU Stern, USC Marshall, Michigan Ross, Kelley, Georgetown, and UCLA Anderson could be strong fits, as they value non-traditional backgrounds and offer generous scholarships, especially for candidates with unique profiles. You can also look for ROMBA scholarships. Your GMAT is also decent. Additionally, focus on programs with diversity-based scholarships, which could provide valuable financial support. Focus on highlighting your experience in communication and government and how it will contribute to the MBA community, and clarify your career goals to highlight the value you’ll bring to the school’s network. With careful school selection and a strong narrative, you are well-positioned to secure both admission and scholarship support in the U.S.

What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool.

If you’d like, we are happy to discuss your profile in depth and assess your chances to top B-schools and strengthen your application with impactful stories.

Cheers!

Hello garfieldrew,

While your GMAT score is decent, your academic background and work experience in corporate communications and government are a strong foundation for an MBA. Regarding US MBA programs with scholarships, some top programs in the US like Stanford, Wharton, Kelley, and Michigan Ross, etc provide financial assistance for LGBTQ+ business leaders.

Your profile makes you a strong candidate for a scholarship for one of the mentioned below.
1. Ron Sukamto Scholarship by Kelley School of Business
2. Point Foundation Scholarship offered at NYU, Wharton, Cornell, and many
3. PRISM Fellowship by Wharton
4. Gamma Mu Scholarship by Yale SOM
