Hello everyone,

I just took the GMAT yesterday, and my official score is 735 (Q: 90, V: 85, DI: 85). I'm from India and hold a B.Tech in Information Technology (2021) with a GPA of 3.5/4. Over the past three years, I've been working as a Software Development Engineer, receiving annual promotions and currently holding the position of Senior Software Development Engineer.

With this GMAT score, I'm aiming for the M7 business schools and am looking for guidance from this community on navigating the application process.

I'm feeling a bit lost on where to start with my applications, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more information about my profile.

Thanks!

Wow. Fantastic score! Fantastic job!

Keep in mind that the score is not a good enough alone item to break through the M7. This score will help you to be in the race and not get dinged so to speak, but you are expected to also bring more to the table and provide a relevant story - e.g. why do you think you need an MBA now? Why not in a few years? How have you used your time compared to your peers? (these are the types of questions AdCom will have in their minds) as well as thy will you succeed in your future role? You are on the younger side, so they will look at how mature you are and how attractice you would be to a future potential employer. Schools don't like to bring people who may have a hard time finding a job. E.g. many PM roles may require 5 years of work experience in Tech and if you come in with a story of moving to Tech PM, it will be a blunder and a ding as the AdCom will see you have not researched your story well enough and have not talked to the current students and alums (a very helpful step) about your career choices, plans, and opportunities.

What you want to show in your application (for an Admit) is that you are ready for the BSchool, you will be successful when you graduate, and that you will add value to the class as a productive, interesting, and happy candidate.
Thanks bb! This was definitely helpful. I am exploring on some MBA consultants to bring onboard, who could help me with this journey of B-school applications.

Apart from that, I was wondering whether with this score, would it be difficult for me to apply in Round 2? Since Round 1 deadlines are just a month away I'm yet to go for an IELTS (which I assume I could complete by the end of August at the earliest). Moreover, no progress on SOPs, LORs, or anything other than GMAT.

CogentEnthusiast - well done on the GMAT! Some thoughts/ clarifications:

1. Which undergrad university did you attend? And does the university have any alum presence at M7's?

2. Which company (e.g. F-100/ 500 etc.) are you working in? Would like to understand more details of your key achievements (in your role), post-MBA goals, and broadly 'why MBA'.

3. Any extracurricular activities worth highlighting?

The above angles would help assess the strength of your overall profile, which can then help decide which rounds/ schools to target.

Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Arvind
