can anyone pls share what resources should be referred for sc

Hi Himadeep,

There is a misconception that SC questions test your knowledge of grammatical rules. But what GMAT actually tests is the ability to convey the right meaning without any ambiguity. Let me share a few insights on how to approach SC questions.

What should be the approach!

As GMAT SC questions focus on meaning, it is really important to approach them from a meaning stand-point. Grammatical rules are helpful but only to some extent. You can find a few answer choices which are grammatically correct and also convey a logical meaning. But there is only one answer choice, which conveys the intended meaning. So, it is important to understand the meaning the sentence is trying to convey and identify the errors and then eliminate the answer choices which do not convey the intended meaning.

To do this, you need to read the sentence properly because you might come across a few complex and lengthy sentences. To read a sentence properly and understand its meaning, it is important to break the sentence at the right intervals. These intervals can be:
  • Conjunctions
  • Relative pronouns
  • Verbs and verb like words that act as modifiers

You can understand the gist of the approach by referring to the following video.

This approach might take a little time in the initial stages but as you keep practicing it, you’ll get better. So, to learn the concepts and the strategies for SC, choose a material that will teach you the right methodology to solve the questions. Because ultimately, GMAT is the test of application of concepts. So, make sure to choose the right one.

If you are open to suggestions, I would recommend you to check the SC part of GMATWhiz online course. GMATWhiz has a unique way of teaching the verbal part. The unit 1 of every module starts with the focus on strategy. The next units deal with individual topics and teach you by following the 3 steps.
  • Teaches you the concepts.
  • Teaches you the methodology required to solve GMAT like questions
  • Let’s you take practice quizzes and thereby analyse your weaknesses and work on them.

It comes with real-time improvement modules after finishing a particular concept. You can check the free trial of the course and decide whether it is suitable for you or not. If you wish to discuss more about the study strategy, you can schedule a free consultation call using the below link.
