I wanted to apply to top 10 schools. I got a 680 on the GMAT - 70% math and 91% verbal. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a 2.93 but I had a triple major - Engineering, Economics, and Engineering and Public Policy. I also ran a sucessful startup company while in school. I have been working in the Auto industry for 3+ years in a rotational program at a fortune 100 company. I have also completed a Master's Degree from U of Michigan with a GPA of 3.44 while working.
I am wondering if I should retake the GMAT or concentrate on other areas that will develop my uniqueness. I am really light on the community service items so I was thinking about working on that instead. Do you think my low math score will hurt me or do you think I have demonstrated that I have adequate math skills through my undergrad and grad degree? Any tips would be nice. Thanks.

Interesting mix of majors. Schools tend to be more forgiving of engineers in terms of GPA, because they know it's much more difficult to carry a 3.5 as an engineer than as a psychology major. Plus coming from CMU, gives you a brand name bonus. Given all that, your GPA isn't as bad as it might seem. Interesting to see that you did better on the verbal than the quant. Why do you think that happened? Also what is the focus of your Masters degree?

Well during the test I experienced quant. problems that were much harder than I had prepared for and I wasn't time efficient. I could probably study for it again and do better but I am not sure if it is a sufficient use of my time and I am also not sure how schools view retaking the test? Also, I am not sure if my verbal score was a fluke or not since that score was unexpected. My Master's degree was in Mechanical Engineering. I finished a year ago. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it!
