Option E correctly portrays the bold faced here.
First is clearly the conclusion, so options B,C,D are out.
Option A says "opinion" when it is rather presented as an evidence supporting the conclusion.

Answer: Option E

Slack time, or float time, refers to the time between the completion of one professional task and the beginning of the next task. By scheduling projects to minimize slack time, organizations can improve their employees’ efficiency. For instance, a Chinese consultancy firm devised a streamlined workflow design and check-in system that allowed a Brazilian conglomerate to minimize slack time by 80 percent, almost doubling its staff’s efficiency.

In the argument given, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

A. The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is an opinion that supports that conclusion’s validity.
B. The two portions are both evidence that support the argument’s conclusion.
C. The first is a premise that supports the argument’s conclusion; the second is that conclusion.
D. The two portions are both premises supporting the argument’s conclusion.
E. The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is an evidence that supports that conclusion.

Option E

First Boldface:

  • It states: minimizing slack time → improved efficiency
  • This is the main point the argument is trying to establish
  • This is the CONCLUSION
[*]

Second Boldface:
  • Introduced by "For instance..." — a clear evidence indicator
  • Provides a specific real-world example (Chinese firm + Brazilian company)
  • This supports the first boldface claim
  • This is EVIDENCE

BF1 is the main conclusion of argument
BF2 is the evidence supporting the conclusion .

A. The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is an opinion that supports that conclusion’s validity. BF1 is correct but BF2 is not correct as it evidence not opinion.( Incorrect )
B. The two portions are both evidence that support the argument’s conclusion. one main conclusion and other is evidence (so incorrect )
C. The first is a premise that supports the argument’s conclusion; the second is that conclusion.(BOth Bold Face are wrong )
D. The two portions are both premises supporting the argument’s conclusion. one main conclusion and other is evidence (so incorrect )
E. The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is an evidence that supports that conclusion. (correct )

A) The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is an opinion that supports that conclusion’s validity.
>Wrong. While the first part is the conclusion, the second boldface is a factual report, not an opinion

B) The two portions are both evidence that supports the argument’s conclusion.

>Wrong. The first boldface is the conclusion that the author is trying to prove, not a piece of evidence used to prove it.
The second part indeed supports the conclusion, so it is correct

C) The first is a premise that supports the argument’s conclusion; the second is that conclusion.
>Wrong. This incorrectly reverses the roles; the first boldface is the main point, and the second boldface provides the supporting data.

D) The two portions are both premises supporting the argument’s conclusion
>Wrong. Similar to Choice B, this fails to recognize that the first boldface is the actual conclusion of the argument.

E) The first is the argument’s conclusion; the second is evidence that supports that conclusion.
>Correct. This accurately identifies the first boldface as the main claim and the second boldface as evidence to validate that claim.

Answer: E
The first bolded portion — “By scheduling projects to minimize slack time, organizations can improve their employees’ efficiency” — is the conclusion of the argument. It is the central claim being made

The second bolded portion — the Chinese consultancy/Brazilian conglomerate example — serves as evidence supporting that conclusion, providing a concrete real-world instance of slack time reduction improving efficiency

Why the other choices are wrong:

A is eliminated because the second portion is factual evidence, not an opinion

B and D are eliminated because the first portion is the conclusion, not a premise

C is eliminated because it reverses the roles — the second portion is the evidence, not the conclusion
