I'd say that depends on how much travelling you'd be willing to do, and also your definition of "legitimate."

Rochester, Baruch, Fordham, Buffalo, to name a few, are ranked. Though they're not ranked as high as NYU and a couple are pretty far from the city.

My definition of legitimate is a school in NYC or online that is highly ranked and good enough to be considered a backup school. I actually looked into Baruch - even visited an admissions event. I never considered Fordham due to some articles I read, which stated that they were in the process of rebuilding. I also looked at Indiana Kelley Direct MBA, UNC online MBA, and Carnegie Mellon online MBA. However, I do not know how an online MBA compares to a top ranked MBA from NYU.

Yes. They also accept applications on a rolling basis until July 1.

Good luck, everyone!

I had lunch today with a current Stern PT student who works at my firm, and a Stern alum from the FT program. They gave me a lot to think about regarding the full-time vs. part-time experience. I'm curious--what are everyone's reasons for choosing part-time over full-time? What defined your decision? Is it personal? Financial? My choice was a strategic one. I want to change functions within my career, but feel like I'd be a stronger candidate to make that change if I have both an MBA and uninterrupted work experience. But, now I'm not completely sold on the logic of my strategy! The PT'er tells me he's made zero friends, and developed no network. Personally, I think that has more to do with his personality than the "Stern experience," but I'd love to hear from other applicants as to why part-time is the best decision.

I chose PT for financial reasons (though i did not mention that) and because I will be soon be starting to manage a team and i think i would make the strongest impact as a new manager if i could apply the tools i learn in the classroom right away. Cliche answer but its the truth.

I chose the part time program because I too would like uninterrupted work experience. My job also pays for my school (not sponsored, but reimbursed) so I can't take a leave of absence.

Might be cliche but that reasoning is certainly thrown around often enough as being one of the best justifications for part-time > full-time.

The reimbursement is a darn good incentive! Does your company have some sort of conditions for it? Like, do you have to maintain a certain GPA in order for them to offer it? Do you have to commit x number of years to the company post-graduation?

The only conditions the company has is that I must score a B- or higher in the course to qualify for reimbursement and that I must commit 2 years to the company post graduation.

When I was reading online, the admissions consultants stated that its really difficult to have a unique answer for the question "why a part time MBA?" So I feel that your answer is just fine. I stated something very similar. I'm already supervising employees, but would like to obtain a department manager position and need to distinguish myself.
