Hello Everyone,
I am having 5 years of experience in IT.
2.5 Years in India
2.5 Years in UK

Now i am planning to take GMAT. My aim is to target good MBA college in Europe itself.
Could you please help with below points.

1 - What is best month to give GMAT exam. Most of MBA program starts in fall. Am i too late to give exam to get admission in 2018. Also could you suggest some good colleges.

2- How many months of practice should be sufficient before giving GMAT with full time job from 9-5.

3- Could you please suggest some study material which i should follow strictly.

I have not done any practice or anything and tried my hands on GMAT online test to check where i stand without preparation. I scored 550 which is terrible i suppose.

Looking forward to hear back. Thank You.

1. There is no such thing as a best month to give GMAT. You can start preparing today and give the exam in the month of April or March which answers the second question that 2-3 months are more than enough to prepare and give GMAT provided you can dedicate some time for studies daily.

2 I would suggest to go through the Manhattan GMAT books for most of the topics (Verbal and Quant). Once that is done start solving OG question and GMAT prep questions available in GMAT Club forum.

Please Give Kudos if the answer is helpful to you in any way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

That depends on the schools you're applying to, and which round you want to apply in. Your schools will publish this information on their websites. There's also this table from mbaMission, which collects info about many schools:

It's going to depend on what score you need for your target schools! I'd recommend starting with this article:

Most people spend 2-3 months studying for the GMAT.

Hello sshar ,

Welcome to GMAT prepartion phase :)

1 - What is best month to give GMAT exam. Most of MBA program starts in fall. Am i too late to give exam to get admission in 2018. Also could you suggest some good colleges.
- Well there is no best time as such. Give the exam when you are prepared. Generally for Fall 2018 batch R2 deadlines (last deadline for international applicants) end in January and R3-R4 deadlines are in April-May. In my opinion you can apply for Fall 2019 batch but check the university deadlines you are interested in.

2- How many months of practice should be sufficient before giving GMAT with full time job from 9-5.
-Well usually people study 2-3 hours on weekdays and 4-5 hours on weekend. Average and feasible study duration: 2-3 months of study should be sufficient.
Few people prepare in 1 month also . So totally depends on your dedication.

3- Could you please suggest some study material which i should follow strictly.
-I would suggest you to start with MGMAT books (for SC and quant. CR i think people suggest to go with Powerscore bible and RC is all about practicing 2 passages daily.. no theory there) and practice questions from GMAT official Guide. After that you can look for verbal or quant specialized guidance.

I have not done any practice or anything and tried my hands on GMAT online test to check where i stand without preparation. I scored 550 which is terrible i suppose.
- 550 is a good score to start with. May i know your sectional scores? Depending on your sectional score, check if you have to focus more on quant or verbal section and study and practice questions accordingly.

Let me know if you have any other questions?

Happy studying :)

Hi sshar,

4 months is a good enough time to prepare for GMAT. It's a good thing you have taken GMATPREP Test once. You now know your weaknesses and can work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for 4 months, you are sure to achieve your goal. I believe you may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and Optimus Prep as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

Also for verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the verbal review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/best-gmat-ve ... 68383.html

Lastly, you can check out a very interesting article by Mike McGarry from Magoosh detailing a 3 month study plan

https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/3-month-g ... -students/. You will find it very helpful as it gives out a study plan as per your needs.

Hope this helps. All the best.
