Please advise if the schools are a stretch, fit or safe. Also kindly let me know if there are any other schools I should apply or drop some from the current list , considering my profile and goals.

Should I drop Darden and instead apply to Gatech ?

@thelosthippie, you actually do have a lot going for you and we think you maybe can drop a couple of the schools you've cited because you can get in somewhere better. We don't want to speak out of turn and try to predict that you will definitely get in anywhere or not but there's a lot of goodness going on in the profile sketch you gave us :-) and we don't see why you couldn't hit a school like UCLA. They are a great fit for tech product management and some of the things you cited like being "air-dropped around the world" (great phrase BTW) tells us that you are indeed a strong contributor - which means a) your manager should be able to write a great letter of recommendation for you and b) you should be able to include some excellent examples of your past successes in your UCLA essay and in the resume.

Austin is also a strong choice for you based on their expertise in tech stuff.

Darden could also be a good school for you but we're not seeing it as quite the same type of automatic match as UCLA or McCombs seem to be. The one school you've overlooked is Duke; they're one of the few programs with a specific Product Management concentration and they also prefer older students, as these others do, so it could work for you.

This definitely is the year you need to make something happen - you're unfortunately headed to the 'older' side and it can be tough to make a compelling case why the full-time MBA is the right next step when people are too advanced in their current career. That's really the only risk factor that we're seeing - if you're already at a very senior level and/or your salary is at a certain level then it can be hard to position a big switch in career since sometimes that entails a step back in salary and seniority from where are now. There's so many jobs in tech prod mgmt that this is less of a problem with that as the short-term goal but it can factor in at times.

We are all systems go for you with those schools - you should try for the most competitive ones for Round 1 and you can save the lower-ranked (but still very good!!) programs for Round 2.

If you have other queries we can help with please don't hesitate to ask.
