The 240 species of plants that make up the Amazon rainforest are related to a particular type of vegatation found in the Galapagos Islands and in fact include the plant known as the Bushika, which can grow to be 20 feet tall and it is well-known for its beneficial effects.

(A)
include the plant known as the Bushika, which can grow to be 20 feet tall and it is - incorrect pronoun usage. Bushika it is well-known

(B)
includes the plant known as the Bushika, growing up to 20 feet tall and being - incorrect use of being. It is used to confuse you as the first verb is 'to be'

(C)
include the plant known as the Bushika, growing as tall as 20 feet tall and - redundancy. as tall as 20 feel OR growing to be 20 feet tall

(D)
include the plant known as the Bushika, which can grow to be 20 feet tall and is - Correct

(E)
includes the plant known as the Bushika, which can grow as tall as 20 feet tall and is - redundancy. as tall as 20 feel OR growing to be 20 feet tall

Looks like D is the answer. Please provide the OA

Looks like D to me as well. Quite confident on this. Good question.

"240 species" is the subject, which is obviously plural. So, B and E that use "includes" would be wrong.

A has an issue with with parallelism while C incorrectly uses present participial "growing". This present participial "growing" is also an issue with B.

Using elimination:
Options B and E are out due to subject-verb disagreement: species (plural) + includes (singular) is incorrect.

Option C has two mistakes. Second 'tall' is redundant. Parallelism is not maintained in the clauses before and after 'and': 'growing ...' [gerund] + 'and' + 'well-known..' [adjective]

Between option A and D: option A has the same parallelism problem: 'can ..' [verb] + 'and' + 'it...' [pronoun].

That leaves option D.

Is to be used correctly in the sentence?
I read that Noun + no comma + to be verb --> basically implies that this is going to happen to the noun mentioned.
Isn't as tall as more correct instead of to be?

If you're asking about grow to be, grow is part of the verb can grow. This structure is fine. Another example (with want):

He wants to be a consultant.

Also, if you want, you can try the official question that this question is based on.

Hello ishwan,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, the sentence formed by Option A fails to maintain parallelism between the phrase "which can grow to be 20 feet tall" and the clause "it is well-known for its beneficial effects"; remember, any elements linked by a conjunction ("and" in this sentence) must be parallel.

We hope this helps.

Answer choice D: which can grow to be 20 feet tall and is it is well-known for its beneficial effects.

"is it is"? Am I missing something? Someone please kindly help.

Hello Rainman91,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, there appears to be a typographical error in the OA; the underlining should extend below "it is", since "it is" is part of Option A.

We hope this helps.
