My answer is (D). It took me 25 seconds.

For the main clause, its subject ("The AXi3 language algorithm") is singular. Eliminate C and E.

For the subordinate clause, its subject (that = ten such algorithms) is plural. Eliminate A, B, C.

" One of the Xs (plural) that" <<plural verb>>
"One of the Xs <<singular verb>>"

"that" relative pronoun introduces a relative clause - a clause that has a plural subject i.e. algorithms and hence a plural verb is needed. Therefore, "has" in A, B and C is incorrect.

Secondly, the relatively clause in the sentence is part of a non-restrictive modifier ("one of the...last year"). The main subject i.e. "AXi3 language algorithm" is singular and hence, will require a singular verb "is" rather than "are". Therefore, eliminate E.

D is the correct answer.

The AXi3 language algorithm ----Subject

--the relative pronoun that refers back to 'algorithms' therefore plural verb 'have been' is required
is making --Main verb for Axi3 Algo.

it (Axi3 Algo) falls short on common sense. --Another IC.

A, B and C has S-V agreement error ---> Algos that Has been
E has S-V error too --->Axi3 Algo are
D is a clear cut winner.

IMO D

The AXi3 language algorithm, one of the more than ten such algorithms that has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls short on common sense.

1.AXi3 language algorithm : Singular subject
2:3 split - Eliminate (C) and (E)

2. one of the more than ten such algorithms that has have been released last year
Usage of plural

A) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls

B) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, but falling

C) has been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community having the ability to mimic human writing, but it falls

D) have been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community for its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls

E) have been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, and falls

The AXi3 language algorithm, one of the more than ten such algorithms that has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls short on common sense.

A) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls -> that modifies algorithms, so need plural verb, but used "has" (singular verb). It is incorrect.

B) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, but falling -> that modifies algorithms, so need plural verb, but used "has" (singular verb). It is incorrect.

C) has been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community having the ability to mimic human writing, but it falls -> that modifies algorithms, so need plural verb, but used "has" (singular verb). It is incorrect.

D) have been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community for its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls -> Now, "have" is used, it is better. "is making..." is talking about "The AXi3 language algorithm". It makes sense the rest of the part. pronoun is mapped correct too. Let's keep it.

E) have been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, and falls -> "are (plural verb) making..." is talking about "The AXi3 language algorithm (singular subject". It is incorrect. We can refer other part of the sentence, where we need "but".

So, I think D. :)

Answer: D
This question deals with correctly identifying the subject and using the appropriate singular/plural actions .
The AXi3 is singular and so would take singular verb.
And, ten such algorithms mentioned are plural and thus would take plural verb.
Quote:

The AXi3 language algorithm, one of the more than ten such algorithms that has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls short on common sense.

A) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls
Ten such algorithms should take 'have'

Quote:
B) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, but falling
Ten such algorithms should take 'have'

Quote:
C) has been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community having the ability to mimic human writing, but it falls
Ten such algorithms should take 'have'. 'are' is used here to refer to The AXi3 algorithm, which is singular and should take 'is'.

Quote:
D) have been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community for its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls
Correctly referring to both the questioned nouns.

Quote:
E) have been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, and falls
Ten such algorithms should take 'have'. 'are' is used here to refer to The AXi3 algorithm, which is singular and should take 'is'.

The AXi3 language algorithm, one of the more than ten such algorithms that has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls short on common sense.

Pre-thinking: This seems to be a subject-verb agreement case for singular and plural subjects AXi3 algorithm and ten such algorithms, respectively.

A) has been released last year, is making waves in the global scientific community due to its ability to mimic human writing, but it falls
Subject AXi3 algorithm singular and thus requires 'is'. Ten such algorithms is plural hence requires 'have'.

E) have been released last year, are making waves in the global scientific community because of its ability to mimic human writing, and falls[/quote]

Answer should be Option D.
