I discarded A and B because of pronoun ambiguity.
D is awkward: toxins could happen

So only C and E left to choose from
I initially chose C, but E is the official answer.
I preferred C because it is more concise and I do not see any issue with it.
Probably, "another one" is the problem here, but I cannot explain it.

BTW, what I did not like about E is "might precipitate another such physiological response"
I think "such" should be replaced with similar.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

C is wrong as precipitate another one can suggest another one can be a toxin but it should refer to illness/response of the body which is clear in option E

I agree similar would have been better

It's between C and E. In C another one can refer to both illness and toxin, which is illogical.

all choices suffer from , verb ing modifier error.

all choices don't have the correct subject for the modification.

ignoring and without anticipating both dont have any proper subject.

caused it isn't making any sense , is it the disease or the toxins , no reference therefore out

ignoring the likelihood that the toxins causing it could precipitate a similar physiological response
what is causing what isn't clearly clarified therefore out

ignoring that the toxins that caused the illness might also precipitate another one
what another one illness, toxins no clue therefore out

without anticipating that the toxins causing the illness could happen again
THis gives a meaning as though the toxins could happen again which is not the case therefore out

without anticipating that the same toxins that caused the illness might precipitate another such physiological response
Even though lengthy the meaning is fine therefore our option

Therefore IMO E
