3. The author implies that which of the following, if they existed, would be most likely to make a separate history of Black women in the United States unnecessary?[/b]

(A) Standard histories of the United States that include information about American women in their appendices
(B) Comprehensive histories of the United States that include the contributions and viewpoints of women and Blacks
(C) Universalistic histories of the United States that emphasize the common experiences of men and women, Whites and minorities
(D) Collections of articles written by Blacks and Whites that contain similar interpretations of Black history in the United States
(E) Collections of articles written by Black women that present their interpretations of their own history in the United States

The author implies that a comprehensive history of the United States that includes the contributions and viewpoints of women and Blacks would make a separate history of Black women in the United States unnecessary.
This is suggested in the second historiographical consideration presented by the author, where they argue that standard histories of the United States have tended to overlook the contributions and viewpoints of Black Americans and women, and that a separate history of Black women is needed. If a comprehensive history of the United States were to include the contributions and viewpoints of women and Blacks, it would address the author's concern about the exclusion of these groups from standard histories and would therefore make a separate history of Black women unnecessary.

B it is.

6. Which of the following descriptions of the author and her interests can best be inferred from the passage?

(A) The author is a Black historian primarily interested in the history of Black women in the United States.
(B) The author is a White historian primarily interested in the history of Black women in the United States.
(C) The author is a White historian primarily interested in the history of male and female members of minority groups in the United States.
(D) The author is a Black historian primarily interested in the history of female members of minority groups in the United States.
(E) The author is a White historian primarily interested in the history of female members of minority groups in the United States.

The best answer is (A) The author is a Black historian primarily interested in the history of Black women in the United States.

This can be inferred from several parts of the passage. First, the author specifically mentions their decision to write a history of Black women in the United States, which suggests a primary interest in that topic. Second, they argue that standard histories of the United States have tended to overlook the contributions and viewpoints of Black Americans and women, further emphasizing the need for a separate history of Black women. Finally, the author notes that the interpretation of Black history made by Blacks will likely be somewhat different from that made by Whites, which suggests a personal investment in the topic.

2 The passage most likely appeared as

(A) part of the preface to a scholarly book
(B) a rebuttal to a previously published scholarly article
(C) part of a book review in a scholarly journal
(D) a condensed version of an article in a scholarly journal
(E) a complete entry in an encyclopedia of the social sciences.

What is a scholarly book: A scholarly book is a publication that presents original research or new insights into a particular topic or field of study. These books are written by experts in their respective fields and are intended for an academic or specialized audience. They are typically published by academic presses or other specialized publishers and are subject to a rigorous peer-review process to ensure their quality and accuracy. Scholarly books often include extensive citations and references to support their arguments and are an important part of academic discourse and the advancement of knowledge in various fields.

Based on the content and style of the passage, it is most likely that the passage appeared as part of the preface to a scholarly book. The author discusses their motivations and perspectives in writing a history of Black women in the United States, which is a common feature of prefaces to scholarly books. The passage also contains a clear thesis statement and an argument, which are also typical features of scholarly book prefaces.

A is the answer.

Q2 has really ambiguous option choices . How can this not be C? Both C and A are equally well fit for the passage.

Not really. The answer is unequivocally (A).

Three historiographical considerations played an important role in my decision to write a history of Black women in the United States. First, I was persuaded ...
Second, I became convinced that standard histories of the United States have tended to...
Finally, I had to consider the role that a White historian can legitimately...

The author is telling us what prompted him to write the book. Hence it makes sense that it appears as a preface to a book.

(C) part of a book review in a scholarly journal

A book review would be something like "In the book, the author describes ... discusses ... she has some good points... this subject could have been handled from that perspective too...
It wouldn't say "why I wrote a history of Black women..."

Answer (A)

It's really hard to accept that the answer is not C. I am not saying that A is not correct, but if ( Refer attachment ) can be book review, how can option C be totally wrong?

Sharing my two cents on this ..

Is the book review (from Goodreads) written by the author himself? Clearly not.

What Karishma meant - If George Orwell were to review his own book, he wouldn't write "..I got the chills so many times at the end of this book ..." (unless he was running high on fever).

Because this review is written by a reader (not the author) the review is written in first person. That's an acceptable usage.

The passage of this reading comprehension however isn't a review. The line "Three historiographical considerations played an important role in my decision to write a history of Black women in the United States." indicates that the author has written this text and not a reader.

Now, consider the contrary if a reader was to review this text will they write "Three historiographical considerations played an important role in my decision to write a history of Black women in the United States.".. Not really!
