Wow. I got the invite today. I thought their offices were closed! I am beside myself with happiness right now, even though I know there's still less than a 50% chance after this stage. But so excited!

Was beginning to feel I would never get to post on this thread :)

Just got the invite, everyone. I am an Indian, working in the US, energy industry. So thankful! Good luck to the people still waiting - the admissions officer re-affirmed that they send out invites till a week before the deadline.

Actually your chances are almost exactly 50% at this stage.

after many weeks of waiting, just received my invite. stats - GMAT: 760; GPA: 3.9. 2 years of IBD / 2 years of PE. born and working in the US.

the invite mentioned a 60-min interview which sounds longer than the 30-45 i was expecting. obviously doesn't matter but just curious how this compares to others who have received / completed interviews? also anyone have any good interview prep resources> thanks again and good luck to all those still waiting! i know how tough it is...

You're the type of person that we need at business school to run our businesses with altruism. I'm rooting for you, now, bud :)

Some things that were NOT asked during my Stanford interview this week:

-Why MBA?
-Why Stanford?
-Why now?
-Walk me through your resume
-What do you do for work?
-What are your goals?

NONE of those questions were posed. Every question began, "Tell me about a time when you..."

I was disappointed not to get any help from fellow Gmatclubbers before the interview, but so it goes. All the best to everyone!

The official driving variable for the order of the invites is the order of the files being read (if you want another confirmation look at yesterday's post on their admissions blog). Therefore you have two cases :
- Your file has been read and you don't have an invitation : 0 % (+ waitlist odds)
- Your file has not been read and you don't have an invitation (obviously) : 14 % (+ waitlist odds)

Its as simple as that.

Sure, but the two cases have different probabilities. Before any applications have been reviewed, there's a 100% chance of being in the second scenario, thus 14% chance. After all applications have been reviewed, there's a 100% chance of being in the first scenario, thus a 0% chance.

As we get later in the cycle and more applications have been reviewed, the likelihood of being in the first scenario outweighs the likelihood of being in the second scenario. So the odds kmcduw put out there are actually right.

The probability function is actually very simple: It is the probability that your application has not yet been reviewed times the probability of any given application getting an invite (14%). So that the start you have 100% x 14% = 14%. At the end you have 0% x 14% = 0%. If you think half have been looked at and you haven't heard you have 50% x 14% = 7%. And so on.

I know you guys are all implying this, but thought I would just spell it out for anyone who was interested.

I just loved all of this. You guys all seem like awesomely smart people and I wish you all the best of luck!

I would say that EVERY decision should be made based on its statistical support. Then again, I ran a multiple regression to draft my fantasy football teams this year, so maybe I'm a bit extreme.

Not too extreme to do so. On the West Coast, statistics does tend to influence decision making in non-fantasy sports. Look at the Moneyball Oakland A’s and the Oregon Ducks ‘correct mathematical’ decisions to go for it on 4th down, 2-point conversions, etc…

All Right Now, who saw that Stanford redshirt quarterback just defy all the numbers when recently playing one of those #1 ranked sports teams?

Very relaxed. There are a list of behavioral questions that Stanford provides. The interviewers pick their favorites. Why MBA/Why Stanford is likely but not a given.

Got an interview invite this week. My hope was waning and this came as a pleasant surprise. For those interested: 710 GMAT, US, 2 years consulting, 2 years private equity.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Do you mind telling the time and date you received it?

If you have two weeks for your interview, does that mean this Wednesday is the last day of invites?
