Yep you get an application status update just like when you were invited to interview or your interview details were entered.

Applied ED on 10/2, received my invitation to interview this morning. Came via email, followed by another email indicating a change to my application status.

To those who have been admitted - I've seen some interview feedback / tips through the forum, but would love additional insight on your experience!

Hey everyone - here's what EssaySnark knows, and what we presume to be true, based on how things have worked with rolling decisions at Columbia for many many years:

1. They'll finish all the ED and J-Term apps before they crack open the first RD app. Therefore, if you applied ED, it sounds like they're planning on getting decisions out to you by Nov. 18th - though that hasn't been officially announced, and it's very possible that post-interview decisions could still be coming after that date, since the adcom has no control over timing once the interview invite goes out.

2. The process that mgh234 described is generally accurate for Columbia, however the "review high GMATs first" thing is not (never heard of ANY schools doing it that way, frankly). And even knowing the process, you shouldn't read too much into it, as mgh234 said; we've seen plenty of people who get the interview a seemingly long time after they submitted - which would imply the first reviewer passed and the interview invite came from the second interviewer - but they still make it in.

3. If you applied for ED right around the deadline, it's not too late for the interview invitation to come. Please don't write it off yet. They get a lot of apps all bunched up together and it takes awhile to move through them. It's only been 3 weeks! Yeah, the waiting part sucks, but it's not over yet. In past years, we often saw people get interview invites in early November and then final decisions right after Thanksgiving. They've accelerated things this year (which is to everyone's benefit) but even with that, the party is still happening at Columbia ED.

This is probably not advice that you want to hear, but the best way to deal with the agony of waiting is to dive into your next application. Hopefully you'll not need to submit it, but at least it'll keep your mind occupied!! :-)

Good luck to all, we hope this works out for you!
EssaySnark

re: interview

it's not much different from a job interview, my personal view is to show your passion to what you want to do, and your passion to Columbia.

Hey everyone,
Applied: 10/02
I did not receive an official interview invite, but I checked my application web-page. I have a new link which says "Search for an interviewer". Do you think that I will receive an interview invitation?

I think that means you have an invite - I didn't see that until I got my invitation email.

Just checked my application status and I have the "Search for an Interviewer" link as well but no email yet. I'm a reapplicant and last year I didn't check the status until I received the email, so I'm not sure if the link was there prior to the email being sent. Here's the body of the interview invite email I received from last year if it's helpful. Seems like the link showing up is a positive sign. Good luck!

Dear ...,

As part of the continuing evaluation of your application, the Admissions Committee is pleased to invite you to interview with a Columbia Business School Ambassador. Ambassadors are alumni of the program who volunteer to conduct interviews and can answer your questions about their experiences at Columbia Business School.

On your status page, you will now see an item under ‘Forms’ titled Search for an Interviewer. On this page, you will see further instructions as to how to search for an Ambassador in your city.

We strongly suggest that you arrange your interview within two weeks of this invitation and complete your interview within one month from today. Keep in mind that in a rolling admissions process, it will be to your advantage to schedule your interview for the earliest date convenient for both you and your Ambassador.

The Admissions Office does not expect or require you to travel outside of your area in order to interview, nor do we offer on-campus interviews. If it appears there are no available Ambassadors in your area, please reach out to XX by phone (212) XXX-XXXX or by email at [email protected] to discuss alternative arrangements.

Interviews can occur at any stage of the application review process. You will receive a final decision after your interview report (together with your entire application) is submitted and reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

Have a great interview!

Sincerely,
MBA Admissions
Columbia Business School
