FROM Sloan Admissions Blog: Grateful for our Veterans
We had a beautiful fall here in New England, and the holidays are right around the corner! I wanted to take a moment to give special thanks to all Veterans who have served our country, current service members in the armed forces, and their families. The MIT Sloan Admissions Office will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th in observation of Veterans Day.

Pat O’Brien, MBA’15 and co-president of the MIT Sloan Veterans Association, wrote in a recent blog post that “Veterans are part of the leadership in most clubs and activities at MIT Sloan…Any veterans considering a transition from active duty and a career in business should absolutely consider making this their home for a few years.” After everything they’ve done for our country, we’re proud to be a launch pad for the next stage of our veterans’ careers.

Our Veterans Association is comprised of almost 70 veterans across all MIT Sloan programs. They recently hosted a Google Hangout where they dispensed application tips and talked about life at MIT Sloan. Brian Kirk, MBA ’16 said something about his experience here which I thought I’d share: “I expected that the business world was going to be a very independent thing, that I was going to go out on my own and it was going to be every man for themselves. MIT Sloan is exactly the opposite. It is the closest thing to the brotherhood of my submarine that I could ever have imagined I would find.”

Please feel free to contact any of our veterans to learn more about our supportive community.

Done with the interview. It was pretty conversational and interactive. Questions from a typical MIT Sloan BEI were asked and I was probed for each question a little. Lasted around 30 minutes. Pretty decent experience overall... hope to hear some good news in a month.

Everyone who is saying they are 'humbled' to receive an interview invite should probably bust out a dictionary.

Everyone who is saying they are 'humbled' to receive an interview invite should probably bust out a dictionary.

For those who don't want to bust out a dictionary, to be humbled means to be brought down in dignity or in importance. So with this knowledge, the following are examples of misuses and use of the word:

Admitted into a top MBA program. Not humbling
Earning a promotion at work. Not humbling
MLB player getting suspended for drug use--exposed, he realizes that he needs to get his act together. Humbling

Good job guys.

Called out for incorrect usage of "humbled" on gmatclub, realizing that my grasp of the English language is imperfect. Humbling. lol

did you repeat the examples from the essays or did you give new ones? Or did they ask specifically about the essays?

I talked about stories from the essays, yes, but mostly from outside of what was already there in my application.
