How is everyone holding up? R1 results will be up in 10 days time.

Getting very antsy! Interviewed Nov 1, so it's been a long wait with no updates!

Whoops! Meant to say Oct 1, but either way, it's been a looooooooooong time! The anticipation is always worse the closer you get.

That's actually a good way of easing your stress. Completely forget that you even applied to a particular school only to be reminded by the acceptance call at the end 8-)

Haha I am the opposite, despite interviewing in early October. Even if admitted I'm probably not attending but I am antsy to see if I get a scholarship that might change my mind... I should just forget about it - 3.2 GPA's probably don't get a scholarship.

I interviewed on October 20th, which seems like a long time ago.

Do you guys think that the adcom has reached a final decision, at least about most of the applicants, thus far?

Kellogg is my dream school and I know I'll have great fit with its community, so I'm praying to God for that call on the 16th! :-D

Best of luck everyone, one week left...

Based on posts from last year, yes it is usually a phone call. If you are not able to pick it up, the adcom member leaves a voicemail asking you to call back. I am sure there would also be an email update later in the day.

FROM Kellogg MBA Blog: Class project leads to 10,000 new jobs in Ecuador

By Mikhail Petrov

Two years ago, Kellogg introduced a new experiential learning class focused on international business strategy development. I am interested in international development, and I wondered what working on a real consulting project was like, so this class provided an opportunity for me to do both.

One year later, Jasmine Lipford, Andrew Tibbetts, Emi Yokoshima and I found out the implementation of our strategy from class resulted in 10,000 new jobs and the biggest stevia growing project in Ecuador.

International Business Strategy Lab, taught by Prof. Susan Perkins, provides a real-life consulting experience for students to work with international clients. In 2014 the whole class worked with the Ecuador Trade Commission. We were divided into three groups based on our interests and prior experience. Projects included:

  • A new airline route from Quito to Chicago
  • Export of Ecuadorian tilapia to the United States
  • Our project: stevia production in Ecuador
For those who don’t know, stevia is one of the most rapidly growing natural sugar substitutes in the world. It is extracted from a stevia plant.

We started our project by doing some market research and looking into the industry, since none of us was familiar with it. Over the course of several weeks we conducted primary and secondary research. We also met with our client every other week to make sure we were on the same page.

Halfway into the class, we felt we had a good idea of how Ecuador could win in the marketplace.

Two other students and I were lucky to travel with our professor to Ecuador and meet the Minister of Foreign Trade and local stevia producers. Our research in advance of the trip led us to believe that local production was not developed enough to start direct exports to the U.S. Visits to local markets verified our hypothesis. Instead, we advised the Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce focus on developing the raw stevia production and get buy-in from an outside partner.

The next question we faced was how to make an impact and implement the strategy.

That’s where the Kellogg alumni network came into play.

We were amazed how helpful and responsive alumni were when we asked those who work with stevia to talk with us about our project. Through the alumni network we found several key players in the industry. One of the alums became interested in working with the Ecuadorian Commission, was on board with our recommendation and was looking for potential partners.

Last summer that alum, who works with a multinational company, partnered with the Ecuadorian Commission, and that partnership developed into a massive project for stevia production. It created 10,000 jobs in a depressed region of Ecuador and also represented a big step in stevia production development. We are looking forward to completion of their project and hope to see many more projects like it in the future.

Mikhail graduated from Kellogg’s Full-Time Two-Year Program in 2015.  He currently is a consultant at Bain & Company’s London office, where he did his summer internship.

Hi

I'm a re-applicant. Can anyone tell me how many letters of recommendation do the re-applicants need to submit? One? Two? And how many of the recommenders can be the same as last year...one or both?

Thanks in advance!

NB

I believe Kellogg is a bit different from other schools as in it requests all the recommendations (2) to be submitted again as per their website https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/pro ... lying.aspx. In order to be absolutely sure , do send an email to MBA admissions at [email protected].

Do post the reply here so that it helps everyone with the same question.

Thanks!

I mailed them regarding my query. Their reply:

"We will need two letters of recommendation for your application. In addition, the recommenders can be the same as last year and we would welcome new examples and experiences!"

Last year's thread was a Mad-fest on Video view date... This year it seems there is no place you can verify, is there any?

Two Question mates:
1. Has anybody got interview call after getting 'waiver' mail?
2. Does Kellogg waitlist applicants-without-an-interview?

Appreciate your help.
Thanks much. All the best to all of us! :)

Hello Ashumba,

I am sorry for the late update. I have been traveling since my interview date and had access to limited net connectivity.

1. I was interviewed post a waiver. My interview was on November 19th. It was a skype interview taken by an AdCom.

2. I don't know if they do. You can shoot a mail to Kellogg and ask them. All the best :)

@ everyone - Apologies for the late update.
My interviewer was a very nice lady and helped me bring out my whole profile to the table. It was very conversational. She asked me a mix bag of questions - the usual qns that are already posted here - why mba, why kellogg, how will you contribute, questions about my work and extracurricular activities, a few behavioral qns and a few interesting questions - common misconception that people have about you, a time when you were intellectually challenged, anything that you have done at the creative front. The behavioral qns were highly focused on team work and leadership experiences and style. Lastly, the interview ended with the following two questions - anything that you would want to add and any questions for me. Hope this helps someone.

All the best to everyone.. 6 more days to go! Next week is the Mega week :D *fingers crossed*
