Hi Ronineverywhere
Thanks for sharing your profile
My name is Shimri Winters. I head the strategy team here at ARINGO an am an LBS alumnus
you have an incredible profile and exactly what the LBS EMBA team are looking for :)
I have no doubt that with stellar applications you will get into at least one of the EMBAs you mentioned, (and hopefully LBS!)
They also have 1 scholarship for women (last year, it was split between 3 of my candidates at LBS EMBA) and I think you have a reasonable chance to be considered to this!

We have a dedicated EMBA team here at ARINGO, led by an LBS EMBA alumnus and we have worked with about a dozen LBS EMBA candidates this year (And about 6 OXfrod and Cambrdige EMBA candidates)
LBS will not grant you a GMAT waiver. since the introduction of the EA, a few years ago, they stopped giving waivers for the EMBA.
Judge and Said are more flexible and they will probably grant you a waiver... (you simply need to fill out an essay which is topics why I should get a GMAT waiver)

What to do (this is not on their website.. but as I said, I am very experienced with these submissions)
1. Apply to LBS EMBA (without the EA/GMAT)
2. if you have a good application they will call you in for an interview (the EMBA interview is very different from the full-time MBA interview. you will be interviewed, face2face (well, or zoom these days) by admissions (not alumni) and you need to create a presentation about yourself... but don't worry, we will help you prepare for this...)
3. Post interview, if you make a good impression, you will get a conditional acceptance letter (you're in, but now, take the EA by a certain date)
4. The EA requirement in the conditional acceptance is quite low (150 = 600 in the GMAT) and I am sure you can, with a few weeks of prep and high motivation knowing you have been accepted to LBS, make this score

Is this clear? did I answer your questions / reassure you a bit? ?
For more info and guidelines, please send me your CV and any additional questions to [email protected] and I will help you further strategize.
Good luck
Shimri

Hi everyone - thanks for taking the time to evaluate this.

Target program/schools: EMBA from LBS (also will apply for Oxford and Cambridge but I really want to focus on LBS as I will be based in London for the next 5 years atleast)

    Demographic:Indian, female, 33

    Work experience:
      - ~12 years at a reputable Indian research and analytics company where I started as an analyst and currently work as Senior Engagement Manager/AVP (4 promotions in 11 years; analyst-> senior analyst-> research manager-> engagement manager -> senior engagement manager).
      - Have worked in India for 3 years, then Shanghai, China for 3.5 years, spent 1 year in San Jose, California working for a tech client and for the last 3 years I have been based in Raleigh, NC. I will be moving to London in Aug 2020 to join the European solution architect team focused on ICT Practice.
      - Sector focus: In decreasing order of focus: ICT, Public health, Industrial goods, others (Consumer goods, off-road auto)
      - My current role involves managing global programs (teams varying from 3-30 based in 4 countries) for our key accounts, act as an onshore consultant to the client and help grow the practice (the role has a 'revenue influenced' target)
      - Key achievements: Internally viewed as the change management specialist and have helped salvage numerous accounts by improving quality and client experience; Converting 3 of them to key account status; Beat revenue influenced target ($1M+) consistently for last 3 years; rated 4+ in all 11 evaluations (on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being best)

    Extra curricular:
      - Passionate about travelling: on a mission to visit 40 countries before I turn 40 (been to 26 so far). Have hosted and was hosted by people of various nationalities and backgrounds around the world using hospitality exchange websites such as Couchsurfing and BeWelcome; 40+ references from hosts, guests and fellow travelers)
      - Love organizing local events in any city I am visiting or living in. In 2018 alone, organised 40+ events that helped new visitors/locals to explore the city - ranging from Art walks, city walking tours to game and DIY nights. Organized a Couchcrash for my city which is a weekend full of activities for travelers from around the world; attended by 75+ travelers.
      - Social Media Ambassador for local food bank for last 2 years (since 2019)
      - Lender on Milaap: Impacted 950+ lives through 100+ microloans focused on education and economic empowerment of women in rural India (since 2015)
      - Invited Speaker to my Alma Mater: Spoke to 150+ students about how to make right career choices
      - Amature stand-up comic

    Academics:
      - Undergrad school/major: B.Sc. (H) Computer Science from a Top college in Delhi University 72% (which is 4.0 on the GPA scale).
      - XIIth Grade: 87.6%
      - Xth Grade: 86.6%

    Languages:
      - Hindi (Native)
      - English (Bilingual fluency; IELTS Overall Band score 9.0)
      - Chinese Mandarin (HS2; CEF level 2)
      - Spanish (Elementary)

GMAT: I took some diagnostic test back in 2014 (600) but haven't studied since. I am concerned that I don't have enough time/patience to study but will do my best. Seems the average is 700 so will be studying really hard to get close to this.

I have been delaying MBA plans for the last 5-6 years as I took on different international assignments and exploring the world but now seems like the right time as I want to transition into the industry in corporate/business strategy roles.

Concerns: Do you think I can get a GMAT waiver? How does my profile fair overall?

Cheers!

Hey! I would be really grateful if anyone can evaluate my profile.

Why I want an MBA: Short term goal is to transition into strategy/general management to work with highly driven team, explore how organizations formulate strategies and learn more about business. Long term goal, entrepreneurship, I want to work in Central Asia, specifically the Silk Route, develop the long lost art and work with artists around this route. Why specifically Central Asia, since I'm based in Afghanistan, I had privilege to see the long lost art that has been shadowed by the decades of war. I want to contribute to the emerging economy of Afghanistan.

Why I want one now: I believe that I have had leadership roles but I need more grooming and need to learn about management, strategies and network to different individuals.

Target schools: LBS, Tuck, Yale SOM, Duke, HEC Paris.

Background

Work experience: Teach For India Fellow - 2 years (similar to Teach For America)
Director Fundraising, Teach For Afghanistan - 1 year based in Kabul, Afghanistan
Independent Consultant for 1 year - India/ Kabul, Afghanistan
Operations Head and EA to the CEO - Social Enterprise unit of USAID in Kabul, Afghanistan (1 year)

My experience has mostly been into not for profit and social impact across two countries Indian and Afghanistan.

GRE score: will give it a week, expecting 320+

Extra curricular : Professional Mountaineer, Actively involved in Startup eco-sphere in Afghanistan, documentary photographer.

Undergrad school/major: Bachelors in Engineering. I have an hons degree - 7.89/10 CGPA

Nationality: Indian

Age and Sex: 27 Female

International Experience: Based in Afghanistan since two years.

Languages: I'm fluent in 5 languages (English, Urdu, Persian, Punjabi and Kashmiri)

Concerns: I'm unsure about the schools and the round I should apply in. I got rejected in R3 INSEAD for January 2021, may be due to huge influx of applicants and deferral. I was recommended by INSEAD Alum to admission team. Now, I'm bit scared now to apply in other schools. Concerned about the high competitive pool of Indians.

Can you please suggest which schools I should focus based on my profile, safe schools and ambitious schools?

Thanks!

Hi afrahgmat,

You have got a great profile. I absolutely loved your post-MBA goals and this plus your prior experience definitely gives you the advantage of standing out in the ‘high competitive pool of Indians’. Also, if this can help you, we have recently helped a candidate with a 670 GMAT applying in R3 getting shortlisted for the Sep’21 intake interview. So, with a strong application and a little stronger confidence, you definitely can pull it off :).

Now, your stats are great. A great degree with a decent GPA and a good GRE target. Your work experience, I think, is really good. It clearly exhibits the career progressions and the leadership role you have undertaken, especially that you have been an independent consultant and then your journey from Operations to CEO. And your extracurriculars are really interesting and I am very sure they can bring some good conversations with the adcoms. You just do not have international experience which is especially required by LBS and HEC Paris. But with a good presentation of your essays and providing a global vision to your career, you can compensate for it.

I think the schools you’ve mentioned are pretty much within your reach, given you achieve your target GRE and present a robust story. You may want to target Stanford, which obviously is very ambitious, but I believe your post-MBA goals and your career are very much in alignment with the values of Stanford, and with a stronger GRE (around 330) you have a good chance of making it to GSB. Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from each school will help you fill in order to achieve your post-MBA goals. If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances further. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi VarunGampa
Thanks for sharing your profile and MBA aspirations
My name is Shimri Winters, I head the strategy here at ARINGO (and am a London Business school alumnus myself…)

You have a very interesting profile! From what I can see:
- Academics – good Bachler degree, top 20%... nice that you published a paper
- GMAT – 740 is above the average in all schools. So well done!
- Nice volunteering – well done!
- Amazing Extracurricular activities
- Work experience - on the "good side", you have 4 solid years, in a big fortune 500 company, and you work regularly with teams from abroad and have a good international exposure. I am also very much impressed with the number of leadership projects you have been received at such a young age. WELL DONE!
- Work experience - on the “unknown side” (things I need you to clarify) have you had any promotions in the last 4 years? Have you worked on one product or many? Have you traveled or engaged directly with clients?

In terms of your application =- definitely stick with one career goal, and in your case product management – try to connect this as much as you can with your past work experience and products and clients you were working with.

How do you now improve your chances? Write the best stellar applications you can. Have a few backup schools (in mind, or actually apply to them in R1). happy to help you with this if you want (I am always on [email protected])

GOOD LUCK!

Hi VarunGampa,

You’ve got one amazing profile. I think your profile provides everything that LBS looks for, especially your ability to work in multicultural teams as exhibited by your negotiating and convincing experiences with foreign clients. You have had an impact in your work and exhibited strong leadership. About your ECs and community experience, you have done a lot of things and you have good material to present (just choose a few and highlight those). It’s also a big plus for you that you have worked in your family business and as a freelancer with a cybersecurity startup which gives you an idea of different industries. About your stats, I think you already know they are pretty amazing and much higher than the LBS average.

About your post-MBA goals, you can certainly mention your wish to explore consulting in your application, as long as you can back it up with plausible reasons (which I do find in your profile as you’ve worked as a freelance consultant). Honestly, you can always have a Plan A and Plan B. Sometimes, schools explicitly ask candidates about their plan B, if they fail to achieve Plan A. But what matters most is how well you connect the dots. If you fail to connect the dots in the direction of Consulting, then I'd suggest you steer clear from it.

Overall, with a good persuasive story, I feel you have a fair chance to make it to LBS through scholarships (you may get more knowledge here). I would also suggest you apply to Kellogg and Insead as your profile is quite a fit for these.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Shimri,

Thank you for such a critical evaluation. I'll surely explore your inputs before submitting my application.
To answer your question, I worked on 3 products in the HCM(Human Capital Management) domain, particularly in the Payroll (US Payroll), Time and Analytics space. I didn't have any promotions since we have a rather small hierarchy in our team/ vertical. No, all my interactions with my onshore partners and clients were virtual.
Appreciate your evaluation!

Regards,
Varun G

Hi arpit2093,

I just have evaluated your profile for HEC Paris and would love to do it for LBS. I already have highlighted the important aspects of your profile. LBS and HEC look for very similar values in a candidate and so, I reiterate that you bring clear, pragmatic career goals and a global outlook to your career (you may capitalize on the international experiences you have had). While writing your application, make sure you focus on how LBS’s international scope, deep academic rigor, program structure, and access to a worldwide network connects with your goals and aspirations. Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from each school will help you fill in order to achieve your post-MBA goals (and do make sure you stick to their values through and through). Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi Rachit25,

You have got a great profile. About your stats, they seem great. A slightly lower GMAT but then you have cleared all CFA levels, so I would not worry much about it. Your work experience too seems a quantitative one. I can see career progressions, achievements, and international experience. Also, it’s great that you have trained some people because this is the first and most important step to become a mature leader. I find your extracurriculars interesting too. You may want to highlight and build up an interesting story of co-founding a society. Your post-MBA goals seem relevant and pragmatic but I would say make them more detailed like what positions you want to take after MBA and where you want to reach in the long term in this industry and how you want to make an impact over it. You may also want to give a ‘global outlook’ to your career.

Try to work on the following aspects while you craft an application:

Global Outlook and ability to work in multicultural teams
Clear and Pragmatic Career Goals
Strong communication

Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from LBS will help you fill in order to achieve your post-MBA goals. The most important part is to be able to connect the dots between your prior career and future goals (especially for LBS). You may take more tips about connecting dots through our blog on HOW TO CONNECT DOTS FOR THE “IDEAL MBA ESSAY". If you’d like we are happy to hope on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances in further detail. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi Phemyodu58,

Your profile is really amazing. Starting with academics, strong grades with a number of achievements, so on this parameter you are an outstanding candidate. Wish you luck for a great GMAT!

Now about your work ex, you have interacted with a number of stakeholders of an organization which must give you a very diverse insight of the working and relationships of an organization. I can clearly see a mature leader in your profile. You have led expansion in two organizations out of the three you worked in, which shows a person possessing an ability to take risks and convert them into opportunities. Also, working with so many regional distributors and travelling almost the whole of Nigeria must have equipped you with a great knowledge of the country. But here, since I can not see international experience in your profile, try to give your post-MBA goals a global outlook so that adcoms know that you are aware of your weaknesses and wish to work on them through your MBA and a particular school. Overall, a great work experience.

About your ECs, they are very interesting and impactful, one of the best I have seen in candidates. These give a sense of innovation, leadership and a problem-solver. And the best part is you have got recognition for all your works, in your professional life, in your academic life and through your ECs by featuring in a ‘top’ magazine to lend your profile credibility. Your post-MBA goals, too, make sense and are perfectly aligned with your prior career. For this profile, you may get eligible for scholarship programs in your target schools, so try to search on this part too. Now, the most important part in such a strong application to get converted is connecting the dots and building a great story. If you’d like we are happy to hope on a call sometime this week to discuss your essays and your chances in some other great schools in further detail. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Ideal Post MBA roles; Market Strategy & Planning, Revenue growth Management and Brand/Product Management.
Industires: Consumer goods and Tech.
